We have iron. We make door hinges out of it.
we have iron too.
we make superior weapons out of it and use them to conquer people with bronze weapons
Yeah right. You're using plastic and plasma weapons last time I checked.
that's the alt-future earth
this is my in-progress PT history that works with the regional map and this region
Reason I'm delegating mine to you.
*Foxy charges Arda due to lack of attention.*
The sword is a defensive weapon in Themiclesia. Offensive weapons are bows and arrows. Since we engage at a distance and almost never proceed to combat, archery skill is considered much more important than swords. If you're pulling out your sword, it means you've already abandoned your chariot and in covering your retreat.
Plain and effective>Decorative and shiny
*squeak*
Because we will inherit the stars.
Someone please talk...
*foxy tackles you from nowhere*
Yes! *snuggles foxy*
*she snuggles back happily, and falls asleep, using you as a bed*
How about no. It's called psychological warfare.
Which might right until they realize your sword is ineffectual as heck compared to a bronze/iron/copper/whatever sword and come to associate decorative and shiny with weaker.
Oooh you have a shiny sword, I'm to scared to just murder your face with my Falx.Sarcasm
Yeah yeah, it's good enough when people surrounding you don't have metal technology.
Tyran does/did, I certainly did.
You're not surrounding me. Themiclesia was smaller than it is now in the 1700s B.C.
Giant big ass wolf calvary trumps your bronze swords.

Archery in Themiclesia
Archery is a crystalized form of production and is revered with the highest respect as the pre-eminent form of martial art in Themiclesia. An entire system of etiquette has been erected around it, for both political and practical purposes. A child’s training in archery begins with the age of 3, arguable making them the youngest child soldiers known in history.
A boy traditionally receives his first bow at his third birthday, as a gift from his grandmother. With this bow he practises to shoot on a daily basis, on a target 10 metres from him with arrows; each successive year the target is furthered 10 metres away from him, so as to hone his accuracy. At age 13, he will have learnt to shoot a target 100 metres away, and from then on the target is stationary. He is to shoot alternately with his left and right hand, in that order; this is done to ensure that he will be able to shoot in any direction with equal proficiency. The target is adorned with concentric circles to represent degrees of accuracy achieved. He is to count the number of circles that hit (on a target with five concentric circles, if he hits the smallest one, he is said to have hit simultaneously five circles, and is so counted) after each bunch of 90 arrows. One day’s practise is usually 12 bunches, or 1080 arrows shot. This practise is referred as “precision shooting”.
From age 13 and onwards, he will shoot on a moving chariot to simulate actual battle conditions. This activity is often his only chance to bond with his peers at this age, when one coaches the chariot while the other shoots. At this point, a second style of shooting is introduced, “speed shooting”, wherein the object is to shoot as many arrows, with some minimal accuracy, as he is able, during a set amount of time. This style, along with the pre-existing one, are practised alongside, until age 20.
The age of majority (social, religious, political, and legal responsibility) is 20 years in Themiclesia, the which is marked by the Kanri ceremony, where the initiate is capped with three successive caps, representing social/political, military, and religious duty. From this age forth, they may be called upon to serve in battle. Practise becomes an event that a young man does at leisure, as he is considered to have mastered the skill of archery already.
There were also periodic archery competitions that occurred frequently. Notably, before all major religious ceremonies, an archery competition was to be held to determine the person who gains the honour of being an assistant in the sacrifices. Kings used targets decorated with bear fur; state rulers, elk; ministers and officials, tiger or cheetah; gentleman, deerskin; others, any other material.
