Without opening your door,
you can open your heart to the world.
Without looking out your window,
you can see the essence of the Tao.

The more you know,
the less you understand.

The Master arrives without leaving,
sees the light without looking,
achieves without doing a thing.

It depends on your definition of "good". Looking at your nation profile, you don't have a crime issue, but it seems like politicians often get bribed by corporations in your nation. As for civil rights and political freedom, some people say you need those high to be good, and other people believe its best to keep political freedom down and have total government control. It all depends on what you want.

In pursuit of knowledge,
every day something is added.
In the practice of the Tao,
every day something is dropped.
Less and less do you need to force things,
until finally you arrive at non-action.
When nothing is done,
nothing is left undone.

True mastery can be gained
by letting things go their own way.
It can't be gained by interfering.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION AT VOTE

Researching Unique Ecosystems

A resolution to promote funding and the development of education and the arts.

Category: Education and Creativity

Area of Effect: Educational

Description: Encouraged by the ongoing efforts of the international community to invest in biological research,

Impressed by some of the potential technologies and cures that have developed from this research, but

Concerned by the rate at which unique ecosystems are disappearing, either to man-made activity or to natural changes in climate,

This august World Assembly hereby enacts the following, subject to any limits imposed by earlier resolutions that are still in force:

Defines for the purposes of this resolution:

'unique ecosystem' as any area which is reasonably likely to contain flora and fauna that are unique to the larger ecosystem,

'man made activity' as action or continued inaction taken by sentient beings that endangers the biodiversity of a unique ecosystem, up to and including mining, logging, construction or introduction of invasive species, but not counting acts of war,

'natural changes in climate' as any foreseeable, long term natural event or change that endangers the biodiversity of a unique ecosystem, such as long term drought, rise in sea levels or global cooling;

Requires nations where man-made activity may be reasonably expected to seriously compromise a unique ecosystem to make reasonable expeditions, within their abilities, into the unique ecosystem to take stock of and collect samples of unique flora and fauna within the region;

Requires nations with ongoing natural changes in climate that threaten to seriously compromise unique ecosystems to make reasonable expeditions, within their abilities, into the unique ecosystem to take stock of and collect samples of unique flora and fauna within the region.

Expands the duties of the World Assembly Science Program (WASP) to include:

Monitoring global climate changes to identify unique ecosystems under threat, and to notify nations of said threat to their unique ecosystems,

Storing and providing access to raw data from nations who have shared with the WASP,

Raising and providing funds and scientific support for nations who do not have the capacity to conduct a reasonable scientific expedition;

Encourages nations to share raw data from above expeditions with the World Assembly Science Program (WASP)

"Both Sides Now"

Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
and feather canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way.
But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone.
So many things I would have done but clouds got in my way.

I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
from up and down, and still somehow
it's cloud illusions I recall.
I really don't know clouds at all.

Moons and Junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way that you feel
as every fairy tale comes real; I've looked at love that way.
But now it's just another show. You leave 'em laughing when you go
and if you care, don't let them know, don't give yourself away.

I've looked at love from both sides now,
from give and take, and still somehow
it's love's illusions that I recall.
I really don't know love at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say "I love you" right out loud,
dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I've looked at life that way.
But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say
I've changed.
Something's lost but something's gained in living every day.

I've looked at life from both sides now,
from win and lose, and still somehow
it's life's illusions I recall.
I really don't know life at all.

(Lyrics by Joni Mitchell)

WIKI: Remembering:

Matthew Wayne "Matt" Shepard (December 1, 1976 – October 12, 1998) was an American student at the University of Wyoming who was beaten, tortured and left to die near Laramie, Wyoming on the night of October 6, 1998, and died six days later at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado, on October 12, from severe head injuries.

Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson were arrested shortly after the attack and charged with murder following Shepard's death. Significant media coverage was given to what role Shepard's sexual orientation played in the killing. During McKinney's pretrial and trial, testimony was given that the pair had pretended to be gay in order to gain Shepard's trust in order to rob him. McKinney's prosecutor argued the murder was premeditated and driven by greed, while McKinney's defense counsel argued that McKinney had only intended to rob Shepard, but had killed him in a rage when Shepard made a sexual advance. McKinney's girlfriend told police that he had been motivated by anti-gay sentiment, but later recanted her statement, saying that she had lied because she thought it would help him. Both McKinney and Henderson were convicted of the murder and each sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.

Shepard's murder brought national and international attention to hate crime legislation at the state and federal levels. In October 2009, the United States Congress passed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act (commonly the "Matthew Shepard Act" or "Shepard/Byrd Act" for short), and on October 28, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the legislation into law. Following her son's murder, Matthew's mother Judy Shepard became a prominent LGBT rights activist and established the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Shepard's death inspired notable films, novels, plays, songs, and other works.

I'd suggest putting more funding into public healthcare so that 55% of your population doesn't die of heart disease and your meat tax is a little ridiculous, but you're off to a great start IMO.

While on the topic of citizen deaths, how can I eliminate "Suicide While in Police Custody"?

It's really difficult to get rid of. The only method I've found is to choose the civil liberties option on the police and intelligence agency issues, with each issue only lowering it by about 0.1%.

Aegeana wrote:While on the topic of citizen deaths, how can I eliminate "Suicide While in Police Custody"?

It gets bigger when you have harsh punishments. Some issues I've seen are debates over punishment, and if you favor options that result in painful, horrible death, people kill themselves to spare themselves the pain.

The Master has no mind of her own.
She works with the mind of the people.

She is good to people who are good.
She is also good to people who aren't good.
This is true goodness.

She trusts people who are trustworthy.
She also trusts people who aren't trustworthy.
This is true trust.

The Master's mind is like space.
People don't understand her.
They look to her and wait.
She treats them like her own children.

Gail Zappa
January 1, 1945 - October 7, 2015

Gail Zappa, nee Adelaide Gail Sloatman, age 70, departed this earth peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, surrounded by her children.
Married to Frank Zappa at age 22, Gail was a doe-eyed, barefooted trailblazer, giving equal value to her domestic and professional responsibilities as matriarch of the family and overseer of all Zappa enterprises. She devoted herself to partnering with her husband in the music business and raising their children, Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva.

Gail enthusiastically executed her role as guardian of her husband’s creative life and, with his passing, strove to ensure his legacy as one of the leading American composers and musicians of the 20th century. In this and all business endeavors, Gail passionately advocated to establish clear definitions of intellectual property and copyright laws on behalf of not just her husband, but all artists. While she conducted intricate legal negotiations with corporations as grand dame of the Zappa Family Trust, she never failed to impart the sense of humor that was part and parcel of her indomitable and formidable personality. Gail, self-described as a pagan absurdist, was motivated by love in all aspects of her life, kept her authenticity intact, unbowed and, simply put, was one bad ass in the music business and political world.

Gail will forever be identified as a key figure in the creative renaissance that is Laurel Canyon. But more than any singular accomplishment, she defined herself in her personal relationships, happiest when surrounded by loved ones and artists, often one in the same. The memories she leaves behind are indeed her own art form. Her searing intelligence, unforgettable smile, wild thicket of hair and trailing black velvets leave a blur in her wake.
