Some eighteen months ago my girlfriend and I decided on Turkey as our next travel destination. As such we contacted Austin Community College to enroll in Conversational Turkish classes. These classes were held at the Raindrop Foundation in Austin, Texas where not only were we instructed in Turkish but got to partake in the wealth of hospitality and cuisine typical of the Turks. In June we experienced a most wonderful 16 day tour of Turkey via the exemplary G Adventures organization. From Istanbul to Ankara to Cappadocia and the coastal cities of the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas the hospitality of the Turkish peoples ~ Muslim and Secular alike ~ gave me a warm and loving feeling for the culture and peoples of this Nation.

Yesterday, a terrorist attack in Su·ruç, Turkey, near the Syrian border, targeted young activist who were rallying to bring aid to the embattled city of Kobanî, Syria which has been the scene of much fighting between ISIS and Kurdish forces. The current casualty list is 32 dead and 100 injured. The attack has sparked demonstrations in Istanbul which were met with water cannon, tear gas, and flash bombs by the police.

Nations are often carved with arbitrary borders. The Turkish-Syrian-Iraqi border has long been the home to the Kurdish peoples. (Iran also boasts a large population of Kurds).Historically, they have often been repressed by these Nations and have fought back in kind. Recently, however, the Kurds have been inclined to participate within the Turkish political framework for change and acceptance. Nevertheless, there are some within the political hierarchy that continue to have a distrust if not a de facto racist attitude to the peoples. As such, some say the current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has collaborated with what we call ISIS disregarding the security of the Kurds.

It has long been suspected that Turkey, a member of NATO and thus an American ally, has had a tacit hand in supporting ISIS given their dislike of the rule of Bashar al-Assad who is Shia Alawite. Turkey has seen ISIS as strong opposition force to Assad amongst an assortment of weaker groups. Unfortunately, ISIS has not brought down Assad’s regime rather they have become the Monster of the Middle East evoking outcry from most of the world. And Turkey’s continued reluctance to take a stand against these atrocities has been a blemish to their global standing.

In my recent travels to Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain and even Oregon and Mississippi, the underlying example of the peoples I have met is hospitality. Most everyone I have ever met in my life is basically good people seeking a serene life. Yet many use labels to denote peoples and philosophies. Opinions and prejudices are based on terms such as Republican or Democrat; Christian or Muslim; Black or White; Female or Male with nary an understanding of what these terms mean. The discord I see in the world is a reliance on misunderstood labels in lieu of the humanity these labels camouflage.

The regional problems exemplified by ISIS are incredibly complex and multifaceted. Thus the solutions are not simple or immediate. Nevertheless, it is my hope the leaders of the great nation of Turkey find a way to embrace and make safe all of their peoples regardless of past regressions and absent of external political intrigue.

"Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"

Woah!
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown

Well the south side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
You better just beware
Of a man name of Leroy Brown

Now Leroy more than trouble
You see he stand ‘bout six foot four
All those downtown ladies call him "Treetop Lover"
All the men just call him "Sir"

And he's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Now Leroy he a gambler
And he like his fancy clothes
And he like to wave his diamond rings
Under everybody's nose

He got a custom Continental
He got an Eldorado too
He got a 32 gun in his pocket full a fun
He got a razor in his shoe

And he's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Well Friday 'bout a week ago
Leroy shootin' dice
And at the edge of the bar
Sat a girl named Doris
And oh that girl looked nice

Well he cast his eyes upon her
And the trouble soon began
And Leroy Brown had learned a lesson
'Bout a-messin' with the wife of a jealous man

And he's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than a-old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Well the two men took to fighting
And when they pulled them from the floor
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle
With a couple of pieces gone

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

And he's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Yeah he was badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog.

The great Way is easy,
yet people prefer the side paths.
Be aware when things are out of balance.
Stay centered within the Tao.

When rich speculators prosper
While farmers lose their land;
when government officials spend money
on weapons instead of cures;
when the upper class is extravagant and irresponsible
while the poor have nowhere to turn-
all this is robbery and chaos.
It is not in keeping with the Tao.

"Morning Has Broken"

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day

Just a few questions on Education in your nations?
*Is education free, is it compulsory?
*How many years 1-13? (ages 5-18 or shorter or longer)
*Do students require uniforms?
*Are there private schools? or are all schools public?

Basically in my nation (Rangi Rongo) education is ENTIRELY free, books, laptops, etc. School is compulsory and you normally start school at age 6 and you graduate at age 18. All students require uniform and a special government branch called the Educational Policy Group designs uniforms, school buildings, crest, motto's etc.
There are no private schools in Rangi Rongo. Schools are often huge! With school campuses being massive, however, this is because schools run a one school building system so we don't have separate schools for elementary (primary) middle school (intermediate) or high school, you just have one school that caters for all children in that area.
A maximum school cap is 9,000 students, once a school reaches or is nearing that cap a new school is to be established in that area. Student teacher ratios are 1/15 so for every 15 students there has to be one teacher.etc. (Probably unrealistic but ohwell!)

So yeah basically that's the basics of the education system in Rangi Rongo.

Fredrik Tyyne - (Education Minister) - In relations with Isak Murris (Prime Minister of the Royal Kingdom of Rangi Rongo)

Sunsailian education system: Free, compulsory, ages 5-15 (grades 1-10), each school chooses their own uniform policy, private schools do exist but they're few.

The current WA Resolution, Protection of Sapient Rights has been posted on our off-site forums at:

http://www.runboard.com/bnationstates.f2.t83718

GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION AT VOTE

Protection of Sapient Rights

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights

Strength: Significant

Proposed by: Excidium Planetis

Description: The General Assembly,

Applauding the efforts to secure rights for all sapient beings, regardless of race, and the many efforts not to limit such rights to only beings of the homo sapiens species;

Nevertheless Concerned at the many attempts to restrict the rights of sapient beings for purely racial reasons, including but not limited to attempts to restrict the rights of sapient machines and an attempt to make human decisions necessary in the warfare of non-human species;

Reminding the members of the WA that legislation applying only to humans has been passed before, such as the now repealed GA#16 "Sexual Privacy Act";

Believing that to secure once and for all the rights of sapient beings everywhere, a resolution is needed to affirm these rights;

Defines:

"Sapient Being" as any entity possessing both a) the ability to reason and act with appropriate judgement and b) sentience.

"Sentience" as the ability to feel, perceive, or experience subjectively.

"Existing international laws" as any passed World Assembly Resolutions which are extant and not void at the time an individual may read this resolution, whether those resolutions have been passed before or after this resolution was passed.

And Hereby Declares that any sapient beings found inside member nations are not to be denied any of the rights guaranteed to humans or sapient beings by existing international laws, and that no member nation may discriminate against sapient beings for reasons of race or species alone.

Clarifies that it is the responsibility of individual member nations to determine whether a given entity is a sapient being, but that such methods of determination must apply equally to humans and any other entities examined.

Further Affirms that sapient beings shall be recognized in the eyes of the World Assembly as living beings, regardless of biological status.

Let the Tao be present in your life

Let it be present in your family

Let it be present in your country

Let it be present in the universe
