If you arrive half way through or late, it's better to go for the military option.

Short term killing them is more effective and can keep you afloat at the cost of a high death rate. Ultimately though we'll need people researching the cure if we wanna stand any chance, also I believe the larger your nation is factors into effectiveness, some like 1 cure point for ever million population alive. So large need in particular need to research the cure.

In addition, I think that the boarders to Middle Earth should be closed (Region Passworded) for the duration of the Apocalypse. I shall be "Searching for the Cure".

I just wanted to introduce myself to this LOTR/Hobbit fandom. Both The Queendom of Tauriel and the Desert of Mordor are my accounts. I recently joined NationStates and find it quite enjoyable and great for laughs. Naturally I am a big LOTR/ Hobbit fan otherwise I would not have thought to join your well established region. Thanks for having me!

Greetings! Êl síla erin lû e-govaned vîn.
(A star shines on the hour of our meeting.)

This is long overdue, but I promised to write up a pamphlet for whichever option won our poll for Evil Lord Sauron's small business ideas. Here it is: Rings of Power, the best place to buy jewelry in all Arda.

Rings of Power

Annatar, The Lord of Gifts, is proud to announce the opening of a brand new fine jewelry establishment in Middle Earth! Is there someone precious in your life who deserves a precious of their own? Look no farther than Rings of Power! Other jewelry stores have to go through middle men to get their diamonds and gems, but Rings of Power has a special import agreement with the new Orc miners of Moria resulting from Lord Annatar's recent acquisition of Mines of Moria. This allows us to bring you stunning and rare gems at extremely low prices. Using crafting techniques which have been until now only available to the Elven smiths of Eregion, Rings of Power is able to promise you that each piece will be utterly unique and wonderful. Forged in the fires of Mount Doom, each ring is guaranteed to survive just about anything you throw its way (including dragon fire!). We're so confident in the durability of our rings that we'll promise to give you your money back if you find any defect. In addition we'll insure your ring for eternity.

Whether you're looking for a simple band, or for a more complex ring, we have just the thing! Whether you prefer silver or gold, we're certain to have it. Below are some of our more popular designer options. Each one comes with a unique power including but not limited to: invisibility, control over the elements, limited telepathy, and enhanced beauty to the wearer. Harness these powers by signing a lifetime contract with Lord Annatar today! (prices start as low as your soul)

Other Fine Jewelry Options

While Rings of Power specializes in rings, you can also find stunning necklaces, bracelets, and earrings in our Barad-dur showroom. Diamonds and gems handpicked by our trained craftsmen and then either used or discarded by Lord Annatar himself adorn these beauties. Our non-commissioned staff will be happy to help you pick out your very own piece. Because they are not on commission, their primary goal is to help you in picking out the perfect piece for your needs - not selling you an overpriced jewel.

Be sure to ask about our latest line of Mithril necklaces! Imported directly from the mines of Moria, the Mithril used in each of these necklaces is of flawless quality. Before this kind of quality could only be found only in a dragon horde or for a king's ransom! Now you too can have the most coveted metal in Middle Earth for an affordable price! Rival the beauty of the Silmarils and purchase one of these exquisite pieces today! Each is made to meet your specific desires.

Additional Information

Our showroom is centered in the heart of Mordor on the twelfth floor of the tower of Barad-dur. Open weekdays from 9:00 am until the first round of nightly fires (around 5:00 pm). Open until 6:00 on Saturday, but closed Sunday (in observance of Melkor's day). We offer special discounts to customers who refer their friends. Discounts cannot be combined and cannot be used for multiple purchases. Customers are advised that any gem purchased was likely seized violently from the peaceful inhabitants of Middle Earth and is as such a conflict gem. Purchasing a ring of power may result in descent into the wraith world and eternal damnation for the wearer. Ring powers are dependent on the survival of Evil Lord Sauron and his One Ring of power. Any warranty or guarantee offered by Rings of Power is void if the One Ring is destroyed.

A nice brochure. I have my ring, but am looking for some Power Rangers. Are there any to be had in Mordor?

Power Rangers? I don't believe I've ever seen any of those wandering the Gorgoroth. Maybe the Dark Lord keeps one or two buried in his dungeons beneath Barad-dûr. *shrugs* I avoid the dungeons.

I agree. Dungeons are such damp, dark, and dreary places. I prefer the light and free air of the woods.

Have you ever read The Silmarillion/Unfinished Tales or any of the HOME books?

March of Maedhros wrote:Have you ever read The Silmarillion/Unfinished Tales or any of the HOME books?

Not yet unfortunately. I just recently bought it, but haven't found the time to read it yet. Life is busy.

Greetings Everyone, as head of Middle Earth's Intel department in charge of internal security, I have outlined a detailed plan to survive the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse!

I welcome any suggestion that could improve it. Also be cool if people could "up-arrow" the factbook to give it a higher rating.

How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse
By High Chancellor Neo Dragon

I. Begin Reaching the Cure ASAP! Ideally you're gonna wanna be online for Z day as close to the start as possible, and begin researching the cure. Z day runs for 36 hours, so if you arrive within the first 12 hrs you should research the cure.

Cure stages
1) Research begun
2) Some early promising results
3) Potential antibodies discovered
4) Live prototypes developed
5) Developed; some distribution issues
6) Partially deployed
7) Distributing to infected

The longer you research the Cure, the more "cure points" your nation will accumulate.
Nations gain 1 cure point per million survivors per round that you've had the "Research Cure" option activated.
The larger your nation is the more effective you'll be in researching the cure.

***When curing nations, it's best to start by curing small nations first, a nation of 5 million only takes 5 cure missiles. Once a nation is fully cured it rarely gets infected again, making them good foundations in reducing the over all infection level within the region.

II. Mobilize your Military if you arrive late to Z day! If you get here late, less than 24 hrs remain the military may be a better option. Short term killing them is more effective and can keep you afloat at the cost of a high death rate. We wanna keep deaths at a minimum as we will eventually be able to cure Zombies, no bringing the dead back. If enough of our people survive we might make the Z Day Score Board!

Last year's Z Day Score Board

III. To survive, we'll need a healthy combination of both researching the cure and military defense. If most people do the cure from the start and then have just enough people doing the military option to keep the number of zombies down to prevent them over running us, we will survive Z day. If you have multiple nations, you may wanna do both options, you can also switch options later on as well.

IV. Don't Export Zombies!! As a region we wanna see if we can survive Z day, if you choose the join the Zombies option you will hinder our effectiveness and likely annoy fellow residents. This may result in you getting temporarily booted from the region, so please don't spoil our fun.

If you particularly wanna join the Zombies, make use of a secondary nation!
Check out Zombieland for all your pro-Zombie fun.

V. A password will be put in place on Z day. I know many people move in and out of their region on Z day, but the best way to prevent outside Zombie regions attacking us is by putting up a password. If you leave the region it will be hard to get you back, and you may have to wait till the end of the event. So please try not to leave the region, use a secondary nation.

VI. You can attack with multiple nations at a time!! Yes what many people don't realize is, you can log into one nation per internet browser.

The three main ones being:
Google Chrome
Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox

Log into a different nation on each one, line them up side by side on your screen and you can rotate between the three. While one is cool downing down, you can attack with another.

Hammering away with three or more nations will greatly increase your effectiveness. This will also allow you to participate in multiple regions, and a chance to fight the Zombies on one nation while joining the Zombies on another.

Now your ready to...

KILL THEM ALL!!!

I extend the warmest welcomes to JoeBurbia, our newest resident!

Many of you do not know this, but JoeBurbia has been one of the strongest assets of old-time Middle Earth, and it makes me happy to see him returning back to the game!

I'm sure Dor caranthir and Huor faelivrin among others will be glad to see him as well.

A bit late, but welcome back to Dino rhino! Resurrected from the dead, just in time for the zombie apocalypse!

Warm welcomes are also extended to our newest (new) residents. Welcome to Middle Earth! Feel free to be part of the community and join in the discussion by posting on the regional message board here (until we see the final outcome of the poll currently running ... ) !

As one of the oldest nations in the region, I will research a cure and hit all of you with many-a-cure-missiles, in 6 days when the event is to start. Haven't been part of the earlier zombie apocalypses (have been overrun by brainz-eating zombies each time), so I'm on the same line of thought with the rest of the folks that haven't experienced one and are unsure what to click and when to click. But I'll see things as they progress.

Has it been discussed if we should lock-down our region during the 36 hours event, once the game admins implement the no-influence-cost-password-protection?

Yes, the Council(we should call it the White Council) have been talking and we've agreed for the PW, to the best of my knowledge.

That's my belief also.

Mordor

Hello middle earthlings. My name is Akhôrahil! also known as the noobish nazgul where i am from. I am trying to start this big RP that i plan on having span 1000 years from the end of the 3rd age to the end of the 4th. Could you help by checking it out?

Your lovely friend from Mordor. Akhorahil the blind.

viewtopic.php?ns=1&f=31&t=316096&p=22082137#p22082137

This might end up being a little long, so bear with me!

First of all, welcome to the new nations that have joined us recently! It's so good to meet new faces. Also, welcome back JoeBurbia! About time someone else got in touch with Tatarica again :)

Secondly, Z-day. I've pinned a dispatch written by our very own Neo Dragon regarding how to best survive the event. Our regional borders will be temporarily shut to prevent outside infection, and I encourage everyone to help researching the cure, or, if you are late to the party, to take military action.

Third, I've pinned the regional map to the WFE. There are still elements of it that are a work in progress, but the overall idea is there. I'll start fiddling with a way to add nations to it, so if you'd like to stake a claim on an area, please post here or Telegram me. Please be considerate when staking your claim as, even though the map is rather large, there are also a lot of us here in Middle Earth. I will take the liberty of scaling down any absurdly large claims (If, for example, you say "I want Gondor!", I'd probably ask you to consider a specific fiefdom in Gondor). Nations that have posted in the past week or so regarding claims on areas do not need to repost - I can go back and find what you wrote (You know who you are! :D)

Fourth, thank you for inviting us to your RP The black lands of mordor. I'll make sure it gets pinned to the WFE so people can find it.

Fifth, I obviously didn't update the Featured Nation for a while. This is not due to any favouritism towards my favourite Lady eowyn (Kidding). I simply kept postponing it unreasonably long. To catch us up a little bit, we'll have two featured nations this week, and then shift back to one/week. I'll post the little outline of this week's featured nations tomorrow, to keep the length of this post a little more reasonable, but they're already listed on the WFE.

The starlight wrote:Yes, the Council(we should call it the White Council) have been talking and we've agreed for the PW, to the best of my knowledge.

Tru Dat

Cool map. :) To no one's surprise, I want Eregion. If that's too much territory, I'd like the bit around Ost-in-Edhil.

Map still looks great :). I guess I'll take The March of Maedhros and Maglor's Gap as well, if nobody wants it.

OMG. Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid. Sauron's ring got control of me. My population is now 6.666 Billion. :(

That is a rather unfortunate population...

*laughs* I see the issue. But I have faith in your ability to shake off its influence. Your population will grow more in a little while.

Ahhhh Relief is just an update away. That was the first time in 11+ years of NS experience that I've ever came up with a population like that.

He he.

2 and 1/2 more days until the Zombie Apocalypse! Be sure to be around if you plan to take advantage of the little NS game. Also, if you don't, be sure to let me know so that I nuke your nation with my get-well-no-zombies-bombs!

On the topic of map, I am really unsure how I stumbled upon this piece of history, but here it is.
Archived from the old NS forums, millenia ago.

Also, somewhere along those cluttered lines of text apparently there's still (a working link) of a version of a map.

I dare you to go find Dor caranthir on it!

Also, it looks like in a few the current poll is coming to an end. Surprisingly enough, the tally is quite close ....
