To tell you the truth, I've never seen any of those shows. I watched a few minutes of a Doctor Who once but I couldn't really get into it. But it's been around for so long, it must be good.

Since 1963, yea. But there's two versions, really. Well, it's all the same show, but in 2005 they picked it up again and aimed it sort of at 'the new folks'. So if you ever feel like it, you could just start there. 6 seasons of 13 episodes is easier to take than 23 seasons of 24 episodes..... ;) As for the rest,
Castle is a hilarious police show about a mystery writer (Nathan Fillion (Firefly!!)) who joins the NYPD for inspiration. The character interactions are hilarious.
Stargate is scifi, between the classical and the modern day. Think great big alien ring that sends people to other planets, fake ancient gods/parasites, and great characters. And Macguyver.
And Sherlock is, well, that can only really be one thing. Just in 2010. (Yes, modern day adaptation.) Absolutelly brilliant show. If you liked the books, give the show a try. Moffat and Gatiss are absolute geniusses in terms of scripting and directing. It's flawless. And British, which is a welcome change from the frankly horrible american(!) movie.

They only ever show Doctor Who pretty sporadically over here, I have no idea if they show them in order or not.
Castle sounds like an interesting show, I think I'll have to keep an eye out for that.
I want to say that I watched an episode of that in an english class, but I'm not positive. Whatever it was that we watched didn't do much for me though.
As for Sherlock, I never read the books, and I never saw the movie. I think I should give it a try if I ever see it on.

I am so incredibly happy with our laws.... Downloading is legal...

Welcome back :p

Happy New Years, all!

Yea, ditto. Although my joy for it being january 1st has more to do with the BBC than with the new year. ^_^
