It got to the point where whenever someone made a thread where they 'found oil in my country' (a pretty common newbie thread), the first post was inevitably something along the lines of 'OOC: Just wait till Blackhelm gets here' or '5' (as a countdown for him), and of course he would always show up informing them that 'We thank you for taking care of our oil reserves, kindly allow Griffincrest (the company name) employees to take over the running of the fields. The fifth fleet has been dispatched to handle this'.

I remember he tried that with me once.

Griffencrest almost became a Sumerian state owned subsidiary before he decided I was not worth playing with.

A Sumerian-owned Griffincrest-Blackhelm would be epic.

Now this explains why there was no coconut pie at the local bakeshop.

Could you just imagine? Some guy sneaking into your countries oil refineries and taking a small cup, filling it with oil, and inconspicuously tucking it in his jacket before running off into the night.

"Oh man oh man oh man," he would say. "This is the good stuff. Need my fix. Oh **** yes. Ohhhhhhh..."

If someone implemented that into an RP, I would lose it. Blackhelm should be an II Mentor oh my god.

You all literally have no clue how damn funny I find this. I'm dying right now.

Now if only that were actually what he did, instead of, y'know, faceraeps for oils.

He does certainly have a lot to improve upon. But an interesting read per se.

A general question open to Dienstad. How do your military deal with infamous NS missile spams? Do your military take it like a man or brawl through it like a man? Totally not doing sekrit research or anything.

I retaliate with nuclear ICBM spams...

No not really, I have never really gotten into an RP where that's happened, except when the Imperial regime was overthrown, but I had already OoCly accepted to take those losses.

Also, this: "It appears that you have recently located an oil field already owned by the Griffincrest Corporation. It seems that a rather embarrassing mix up has caused this field to be forgotten, but an intern unfortunately lost those documents long ago. He has since been dismissed, but we wish to offer you a six million dollar reward for these fields. The Griffincrest Fifth Security Fleet is already en route to relieve your men of the territory."

You guys weren't kidding. Ah man it would be so much funnier if he went about the way I described it.

Well, as I see it standard Dienstad war engagement means missiles. And a bucketload of missiles as aptly demonstrated in Moving Never Easy RP. Waves after waves of missiles just to take out the other guy and those missiles are only attendant or even an opening salvo. So if you're getting into a major war in Dienstad, I predict you will be facing the situation first as a first shot launched by the other State versus you. So to me, missile spam isn't the final closure, but only the beginning in Dienstad.

United gordonopia

You thought I was exaggerating :P

The old school solution is to have entire ships dedicated to launching SAMs. So the war devolves to spending hundreds of billions of dollars in single engagements.

My rule of thumb is two missiles per destroyer.

You must know of the common axiom that NS is for fun and not for auditors, Macabees. :P

Esalonia wrote:My rule of thumb is two missiles per destroyer.

The question is, how do you deal with enemy missile spam. Do you withstand the hit or you try to kill the swarm before it reaches you? So your defense consist of just two missiles versus hundreds or thousands of enemy missiles per destroyer and I'm fine with that, haha.

What people don't get as illustrated by Macabees is how big numbers means big problems in itself. Arguably the consensus is NS is for fun and I'm being purposely ironic.

Haize, I mean for an offense I only launch two missiles per destroyer.

I kill the swarm of course. But I asked Cuscy how many missiles would there be in a single missile salvo.

About damn time! How much you wanna bet that more than one of them will roll over, and give the US and the Swiss what they need to arrest Sepp Blatter?

As for Blackholm, he's referring to 'Blackhelm Confederacy', a well known (to the point of almost being an II meme at one point :P ) guy who had an unhealthy obsession with stealing your oil.

Blackhelm's biggest claim to fame was indeed stealing your oil, and the unending conflict between him and myself. Though now he and I would be considered allies lol

Great guy in RL.

Lamoni wrote:Black helm would not make a good mentor, sorry. When we say that he steals other people's oil, we mean that he would invade other nations, and seize their oil fields. For profit.

That might be a little harsh. He's actually a *really* nice guy. ICly his country was very much the antagonist but I've interacted with him for years ICly and OOCly extremely regularly and always thought he was a really cool, good guy. Do I know if he'd make a good RP mentor? No. But I don't think he'd be bad at it either, if for no other reason than experience and having a good OOC personality, and at least decent ability to develop a story. Some of the most fun RPs I've ever been in were the 'Griffincrest-Wanderjarian Wars' from 2006-9.

Okay, I might be willing to admit that that statement might have been a little harsh, but I still don't see him getting past the mentor voting process, where one veto can torpedo you.

Sorry to everyone for spamming the RMB, been off the grid for a few days so I'm catching up :p

Simply put: sophisticated anti-ballistics ordinance. Commonly forgotten is that on frigates and cruisers, often times the guns are capable of being used to track and destroy missiles after THEL and anti-ballistics missiles have been deployed, but before the CIWS is fired (on some vessels in NATO navies, the gun acts as the sole CIWS, but on the ships I'm presently designing this is not the case). So there's about three to four layers of defense against missiles that one can rely on in a ship-based point defense. This excludes AWACS and Electronic Warfare aircraft counter-measures, and air deployed counter-ballistics ordinance as well. Multiply that over numerous vessels and coupled with sophisticated targeting systems, and one can put up a mighty defense against even the heartiest of missile spam, and *still* be in the realm of hard MT without stretching it.

I actually don't know anything about how all that works. I was only saying that were he to be made one, that there are many worse choices that can be made. Even some people that are mentors have somewhat prickly personalities, whereas Blackhelm's by and large a pretty nice dude. *shrug* just my take on it.

Blackhelm was a bit rude to me, but that was awhile ago, I don't really care anymore. I remember opposing his invasion of my ally NC and nearly got myself invaded, but then Automagfreek invaded, so that got dropped.
