I believe the reason for this sudden avoidance of the Colonies is a rash of untreated STDs sweeping the temples. Must be punishment from the gods for lack of faith or something of another. Either way it looks like Aphrodite's priestesses' will be quite lonely for a while.

Plus you have the largest gambling industry in the region. If you need a fleet you can just invite everyone else to a poker game ;)
