yes they are the protesters who opposed the coup and follow the call from the President to protest against the coup... soldiers took tanks and blocked the streets and some of them also start to shoot at the protesters

Ah lovely

I love visiting Istanbul, it is a shame to watch what is happening there.

So my political freedoms dropped from allowing citizens to openly vote for candidates. Wth?

The horseland

My plane refueled in Beirut in 1984. From the airport and flying low over the city, I could tell it had once been a magnificent place. Alas, by that point, all the beautiful buildings were riddled with gunfire and bomb craters. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (and I hope I am), but I am under the impression that it has never since regained its status as the "Paris of the Middle East." :(

An update on my condition:

I am feeling pretty good these days except in the two spots where I still have open incisions. Two other incisions are almost completely healed. (There are seven incisions total.) There is no sign of infection anywhere, even in the open incisions (which have been for my feeding tube and the drainage tube). I am now down more than 50# from my all-time peak last fall and over 35 since I began this process. At this point, I am tending to lose about 1#/day, although some days I only lose a fraction of a pound. I have passed from obese to just overweight and have my eyes fixed on achieving (or slightly surpassing) my ideal body weight. So long as I cannot lift weights (R shoulder), I would like to be roughly halfway between the border of underweight and my ideal weight, so I have some room to wiggle either way.

Imagine my surprise and delight when I woke up after surgery and not only was Mark there, but also my sister Laura! She and Mark apparently had a long visit while I was in surgery, which I think was helpful for both of them.

I can drink as many liquids as I care to; no sweet/fatty things like milkshakes nor any alcohol (which has not been a burden for me). My body is growing relatively intolerant of sweet things; for instance, I am supposed to be drinking two bottles of Ensure each day, but those are getting so sweet for me that I have to choke them down. I've discovered yesterday that I can eat a packet of dehydrated fruit (which crumbles into dust when you chew it) without repercussions and the extra fiber in my guts has been helpful in keeping me regular. It's pretty bad when you can get constipated on a 100% liquid diet! I will begin being able to eat pureed foods this week, which will be a significant step up. Even though the texture won't yet be there, there will be a world of tastes I have been missing. I would dearly love to begin being able to eat mashed potatoes, but potatoes are on my VERBOTEN! list :( (as are rice, corn, peas, sweet potatoes, bread, and other starchy foods.) I imagine I will be eating a lot of unsweetened apple sauce.

My clothes just hang on me these days. I've lost at least two shirt sizes and at least eight pants sizes. The time I've tried buying clothes that fit, they, too, were hanging off of me within a couple of weeks. Over the years, I've given away a ton of clothes that had grown too tight for me. Now I wish I had some of those back. I still have some vintage shirts from HS and college I may be able to wear, but obviously I won't be doing that regularly. If everything goes as planned, I will eventually weigh the same as I did in HS (or at least college) and be able to wear clothes the sizes I wore back then.

One of the main concerns of the Bariatric Center is about vomiting. To date, I have not vomited and I plan to keep it that way. I'm very careful about not overfilling my new stomach (which is about the size of an egg).

Having the drainage tube yanked out without anesthesia last week was an experience. Recall that the tube ran down my body from the new stomach (underneath my sternum) to just above my navel. Having it pulled out was like several continuous seconds of the most intense stomach/gut cramps you've ever had. I was REALLY glad when that was over. I imagine having the feeding tube out will be significantly less traumatic.

I am blessed to have a large number of helpful friends in MB. One of those, David B., was going to be be driving me down to Charleston Wednesday afternoon (as Mark was supposed to catch a flight to Denver before we returned). Mark JUST texted me and said the Denver trip is off, so he himself will indeed be transporting me down to Charleston again. Many, many others have expressed interest in helping me as I need it. As always when I'm home alone, the two schnauzers provide a great deal of company. They've been especially attentive and protective since I returned home from the hospital. I mostly have to be careful that they do not jump onto my stomach or paw me in the guts. In the extremely unlikely event I were to have a true emergency, I keep my iPhone by my side nearly 24/7. Max, the standard schnauzer, weighs about 40#--I just realized in the past 24 hours that I have lost more weight than he has in toto! He's a big boy!

I haven't used my feeding tube (which ties into my remnant original stomach) for hydration or nutrition for a week now. I've only been using it to take my liquid antibiotic. Hopefully, this means they will remove it early and I will finally have no tubes hanging out of my body and that last open incision can begin closing!

Mark is back to work as of today; he has an important contract up in the air which his group initially lost. If they are not able to win back that contract, a couple of hundred employees will have to be laid off (not including Mark).

I can currently tend to myself almost completely, with the exception of packing the hole where my drainage tube used to be, which Mark can still do both/either before/after work. If it weren't in such a bad place such that I could clearly see it and correctly do the required things, I could do that now, too.

My energy levels are slowly returning. The surgeon likened my pre-op energy level to that of a Greyhound bus engine and said that immediately post-op, I would have the engine of a moped. It's still not what it used to be, but I'd guess it is currently at least akin to a small car. It obviously also helps that there is so much less of me to move around. I struggled to sit up or get out of the bed those first few days, but I hardly even notice that any more. I am planning to get a new stationary bike, so I can exactly measure my progress (and keep myself accountable for consistently exercising).

For the first time in MANY years, I again weigh less than Mark. He's been (mostly) following my diet and has lost a great deal of weight himself and looks terrific! For a while, he had lost more than I had on the same diet. Of course, I have had bariatric surgery and he has not, so it was inevitable that I would eventually surpass him.

My migraines have slowed down somewhat. Since the surgery, I have only had one level 5 (worst) migraine. Unfortunately, it was one of the genuinely intractable ones--I would take some medicine and it would ease off for 1-2 hours, then come roaring back. After more than 24 hours, it finally burned itself out. I think the constant pain the abdomen is probably distracting me from routine pains in my shoulders and due to migraines.

Note I have created a new nation in honour of my reduced girth, Otternation! I'm sure ON will have great things in store for him!

For those who don't know me well yet, thanks for your forbearance. For my many, many friends in this region, you all mean more to me than I can express. Please keep the good karma coming!

I've always enjoyed it, but to each their own. Could be good to throw a group together on Roll20 or something.
