Loading...Can someone please answer a question for me? I've noticed -- in the 'view your posts' column -- topics I've commented on last in a given rotation have discontinued, leaving a white (instead of green) notation symbol. Am I causing this, somehow? I haven't been penalized for inapropriate posting. Is it coincidence?
"I don't think you know what morality, evil or atheism is. You might want to look into it a kittle more."
A "ur teh stoopidd" comment. Why don't you try pointing out the error in my thinking instead of attempting to disparage my intellect?
"If Mr. RenascentPleasantLandia takes objection to 'egoists' and atheists who 'dabble in metaphysics' then he should probably not be a member of a region based on the beliefs of Ayn Rand."
I was obviously referring to a mystical metaphysics, as opposed to the "null metaphysics" postulated and promoted by Rand. "Sin" and "evil" are mystical referents. But hey, glad to know that the use of ones intellect and reason is valued here.
"Furthermore, I can't quite fathom how you can say that 'all morality is religion' do you have no morals? or are you religious?"
Way to cast my character in doubt by accusing me of two cardinal sins (within your worldview): amorality and religiosity. To the extend that you have morals, they are part of your personal religion. How hard is that to grasp?
"In response to statements made by the Republic of Economic Invincibility, evil and sin are not quite mutually exclusive, but they are not the same; someone is evil if they violate the rights of others, someone is sinful if they violate god's will."
If someone violates the rights of others, they violate the rights of others. If someone violates God's will, they violate God's will. Why is saying what you actually mean so difficult?
"RenascentPleasantLandia, however, appears to think that no-one should be allowed to judge anyone else; hence if they do they are playing god, and envoking 'sin'"
I merely ask that people are honest about what they are doing and why they are doing it, and what all of that implies about human nature and the nature of reality. Apparently, that is too hard.
"I don't care if I've completely misinterpreted his beliefs, if he wanted to be understood he'd argue properly."
How have I argued improperly? Your lack of interest in understanding and correctly representing the beliefs of others reflects poorly on you, not upon your intended victim.
"To be honest, 'sin' and 'evil' are just words"
Now we're getting somewhere. Now, who created these words, why did they create them, how are they using them, and to what ends?
"The Republic of Economic Invincibility and I (probably) both believe the same things."
Conformity and consensus are no virtue, and prove nothing.
WHAT!!
"I was obviously referring to a mystical metaphysics, as opposed to the "null metaphysics" postulated and promoted by Rand. "Sin" and "evil" are mystical referents. But hey, glad to know that the use of ones intellect and reason is valued here."
I apologise for having misunderstood you.
"Way to cast my character in doubt by accusing me of two cardinal sins (within your worldview): amorality and religiosity. To the extend that you have morals, they are part of your personal religion. How hard is that to grasp?"
I believe in objective morals. This does not mean that I have a personal religion, but that I interpret right and wrong differently to others. I view philosophy as a science, so that although I may have different moral stances to you, through empirical observation of the socio-economic results of different moral practices and the logical study of their underlying nature, a better interpretation of morality can be reached.
"If someone violates the rights of others, they violate the rights of others. If someone violates God's will, they violate God's will. Why is saying what you actually mean so difficult?"
I find that confusing. I was merely answering someone(i can't remember who)'s question, and feel that in doing so I had said what i mean.
"I merely ask that people are honest about what they are doing and why they are doing it, and what all of that implies about human nature and the nature of reality. Apparently, that is too hard."
OK, I get what you are saying, but do you not believe in passing moral judgement on others.
"Now we're getting somewhere. Now, who created these words, why did they create them, how are they using them, and to what ends?"
Morality was created by philosophers who needed a name for a previously nameless application of axiology. Sin was created by religious and political leaders in ancient mesopatamia (apologies for the poor spelling) in order to manipulate thair subjects.
Wow. Someone actually posted in our forum (thanks The Youngworld ambassador, your missive was not unnoticed). I was going to reply, but it's been so long I couldn't even remember what my password was.
Looks like the debate around here is as lively as ever.
To add some excitement to the mix, I think, every time I log in, I'm going to impart a bit of GG lore on you all (I mean, heck, we've been around since 2004).
So today I point you to Warzone Asia and Warzone Sandbox. Back in our glory years we spent a decent spell of time sharpening our weapons by battling for control of the Warzones. At a peak we held five of six (no one ever held all six at once, at least not during that period of the warzone's popularity). However, we held Warzone Asia for so long that Pandarens, a loyal Gulchian soldier, only was recently displaced as the record holder fifty days ago, holding the record for over five years. Tatara, another puppet of GG, continues to hold the record in Warzone Sandbox.
Long live Galts Gulch.

The country's capital city, Necropolis is now named in the Addamses' Family NS overview. Necropolis is late Latin for the Greek word, Nekropolis, meaning 'city of the dead,' -- which was in ancient times a large and elaborate cemetery outside a city. Colma, CA, south of San Francisco is a present-day variant of the concept. As a result of San Francisco's limited space, it's cemeteries are in suburban Colma and the dead astronomically outnumber the living. In fact the town's motto is, "It's good to be alive in Colma." In the Addamses' Family capital, the metropolitan cemetery is the city.
Trivia:
In 2002 Jonathon Keats held a petition drive to pass "A = A" as statutory law in Berkeley, California. Specifically, the proposed law stated that, "every entity shall be identical to itself". Any entity caught being unidentical to itself was to be subject to a fine of up to one tenth of a cent. The law did not pass.
