Really? Statistically women are raped FAR more than men...even if you factor in fear of reporting. Men are FAR more likely to be raped by other men than women. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it does. Rape is a horrible crime for anyone experiencing it. However, stating "men are raped too" is a false equivalency used to deny the reality of a pervasive rape culture targeting women. The constant "what about me" whinging is a symptom of male privilege. Think about that...when someone says how can we end rape and your first response is "let's focus on male victims of rape" you're entirely missing the point, and frankly part of the problem. Stop being so damn obtuse.

He is not being obtuse he is simply stating the fact and highly underrepresented fact at that, that men are raped by women, and should be represented in the fight against rape.

I agree, but that does not mean it does not happen. Rape is wrong whatever form it takes.

Rape is rape. It does not matter what sex or gender the victim or the rapist are, it is still horrible. However, Jens is right in the fact that we live a rape culture that objectifies women. It's even worse in Africa and Asia. Although men are raped and it is horrible, female rape is an astronomically larger problem

I wouldn't say it's always used like that. Largely it is, but I'm sure that a man who actually was raped would not use it with those intentions.

Does this region have a vexillological society?

You really couldn't be wronger when you say it's worse then in Africa and (some parts of) Asia

Do you wish to clarify on why you think they're wrong, Ebin?

Believing that "Rape culture" is better then in Africa or Asia

Ebin wrote:Believing that "Rape culture" is better then in Africa or Asia

Perhaps they meant to say that the problems of that are worse there? I mean, I believe rape is awful anywhere...but that's just how I feel.

If you read my initial post, I was not using that as any form of argument. I was pointing it out in the name of impartiality.

I agree with you that Rape has become negatively socially ingrained in society, as have, sadly, other forms of abuse. Likewise, even though this is the twenty-first century, in the vast majority, rape is still perpetrated against women (17% to 4% in Australia at least - https://www3.aifs.gov.au/acssa/statistics.html). That does not mean the opposite is nonexistent, and likewise this fact does not excuse the other.

When you say "rape culture," I would just like to point out that this is a wide implication. Although there are many cultural backgrounds, such a statement collectively assumes all (men) take part in this, even though, however bad rape may be (and in many places it is), in the west it is still committed by an overwhelming minority.

Sadly, not that I know of. It would be good if we did. Try the offsite forums.

I didn't mean to turn this into a rape debate,
But I have a good friend who by context was raped by a female.. He didn't want sexual relations with this said woman and she pretty much made him..
But he won't speak out cause well "women raping men" is a running joke in America

Probably would have to do with the magnitude of such harms in the aggregate.
