Thanks! I'm finally doing steadily well! I just hope I don't choke in the Ro16's like I usually do.

Hey guys, can I ask for prayers for someone I care about who was... Well, I won't go into what happened, but he needs prayers for physical and emotional healing badly. Thank you.

Welcome back, Kel!

Empire of symphonia

Introduction

The 3rd Symphonian Civil War, better known as the Seong-Kiramashi Conflict, was an internal conflict within the borders of the Asian Federation of Nations. While among the shortest of wars in Symphonian history, it is the most brutal and costly in terms of financial and human cost. Upwards of 10 million people died, along with NSD$ 3.2 trillion in destroyed property and losses. Another 25 million people were forcibly displaced as a result of the conflict, many joining a largely permanent diaspora to metropolitan Aquitayne, Mesoland, and the Aquitaynian Province of the Cape in Insula Fera. The conflict involved the use of low-energy atomic weapons, both which destroyed the cities of Celestar and Numenoria.

The immediate cause of the conflict was the overthrow of the old Asian Federation of Nations government by a coup d'état by the aristocratic House of Seong and its ally, the House of Mun. The execution of members of the Imperial House of Kiramashi: Twin Emperors Lelouch vi Kiramashi-Sveltz and Sora vi Kiramashi-Sveltz, Cloistered Emperor Aidan vi Kiramashi-Britannia, Dowager Empress Euphemia vi Kiramashi-Britannia, set off massive demonstrations across the Symphonian archipelago. Rioting and protest were put down by heavy military force on the orders of the newly-proclaimed Seong Shogunate, resulting in heavy civilian casualties in many major cities.

The ensuing war between the National Liberation Front, led by pro-Kiramashi aristocrats, and the Seong Shogunate was joined by foreign intervention by Aquitayne, the Vuifellian Federation, and the Tsao Empire of Comrade Commisar. Aquitayne made use of bases already established within the AFN, choosing to face off against Seong and Tsao forces in what is now the Republic of Cheonsa, specifically around the city of Daehan. Vuifellian forces landed in the Xinhai island chain, establishing a base of operations in Evendium and securing the Mare Ferum coast of Symphonia and preventing a Seong naval strike against cities there. Tsao forces landed in Cheonsa and launched punitive attacks against Hylton and New Trinity, and advancing within 50 miles of Trantor and Daehan. Tsao intervention was marked by heavy cost of civilian life.

The Peace of Genevira was signed on September 23, 2013 by newly-crowned Empress Seondeok vi Kiramashi. The treaty, which stated the unconditional surrender of the Seong Shogunate, resulted in thousands of pro-Seong aristocrats and military officials being purged from government and military administration. Approximately a third of these were executed for high treason, the remaining banished and exiled from the AFN and the Empire of Symphonia for eternity unless future leaders allowed them back. Many are supposedly dispersed around Astyria.

Causes and Lead Up to the War

The Great Asian War
The Great Asian War, or the War of the Setting Sun as known in Japanese-speaking portions of the AFN and East Asian NS states, was a major NationStates conflict that pitted key members of the Polaris Initiative against the Greater Evil Imperial Japanese Dystopia and its allies. The anti-GEIJD coalition was led by The Most Serene People's Empire of the Quendi Nation and the Greater Amanitte State, in response to punitive Japanese incursions into Quendi home territory during the earlier Chechnyan War against the Omnipotent Soviet Russian Union.

The Great Asian War was fought within the borders of the GEIJD, and Symphonian involvement in this conflict was to detach Taiwan and mainland China from the GEIJD. (Please note that the GEIJD is based off of the RL Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere had Japan been successful in WW2). While Polaris forces were engaged in fronts from India to the Russian Far East, Symphonian forces coordinated with Quendi forces to attack Japan proper, the Quendi from the south and Symphonia from the north. The Battle of Hokkaido ended in a stalemate for both sides, however Symphonian forces were operating thousands of miles from headquarters and Symphonia was forced to subsequently withdraw its forces to resupply.

Taking advantage of this situation, the GEIJD launched a counterattack against the West Coast of Symphonia Propera, catching the Home Army by surprise and causing chaos throughout the AFN. Japanese forces defeated the Hienkoku Self-Defense Forces in the Battle for the South Britannian Channel, and proceeded to make amphibious landings near Cadia, in the Kanato Desert, and near West Genevira. A naval counterattack by the AFN Combined Fleets wiped out the Japanese naval force, but the land and air battle lasted for the remainder of the Great Asian War until the conclusion of the Quendi-Japanese peace negotiations on October 29, 2011.

The blame for allowing the Japanese so easily within the borders of the AFN itself was placed on AFN Chain of Command. While not directly implicating the reigning Emperor Aidan vi Kiramashi-Britannia, there was sufficient enough intrigue and public outcry that Crown Prince Lelouch vi Kiramashi-Sveltz effectively seized control of the government in the last months of the war. Conservative aristocrats in the Imperial Senate publically denounced Aidan's handling of the war, especially since he had fled with his wife Euphemia to Reformed Britannia for the duration of the conflict. Failure to win the Battle of Hokkaido was seen an insult to national honor, due to ongoing propaganda efforts by the government to give the impression that the forces of democracy would prevail over all others. Above all, the GEIJD invasion of Symphonia was the first ever actual invasion of the Caelistis Insulae, not withstanding the threats of invasion by the Corporate Alliance led by Griffencrest Corporation during the Oil War/Castigonian Crisis.

The Constitutional Crisis
The Constitutional Crisis refers to the two years of political chaos immediately following the end of the Great Asian War. In the last few months of the war, Crown Prince Lelouch vi Kiramashi-Sveltz seized power becoming both Prime Minister of the Empire of Symphonia and the Chairman of the Asian Federation of Nations. He did this with the support of members of the liberal aristocracy, and this move was opposed by reigning monarchs Aidan and Euphemia vi Kiramashi-Britannia and their supporters in the army and the conservative aristocracy. There was widespread discontent over the course and direction of Symphonian involvement in the Great Asian War, which led to Lelouch gaining enough support for him to declare himself reigning monarch.

The dispute was resolved by the Celestial High Court of Justice, the head judiciary body, which ruled that the prince's actions were illegal in a 5-2 vote. Widespread public indignation, largely over accusations that Emperor Aidan had bungled the war effort, eventually forced the emperor and empress to publically state that Lelouch, and his twin brother Sora, were inherit the Throne of Symphonia as Dual Monarchs. The Empire of Symphonia was to be split into the Empire of the East, under Sora, and the Empire of the West, led by Lelouch. Since Lelouch was seen as the more radical of the two, it was hoped that they would balance each other out. In addition, Kohaku vi Kiramashi, a member of the main family branch, was inaugurated as AFN Chairman to further check Lelouch's influence.

While the Crisis ended peacefully, the aristocracy and the army lost faith in the Kiramashi to be able to keep their political intrigues at a minimum. In a country still struggling to rebuild after the Great Asian War, the last needed was a political succession crisis. At this time, Seong Lee-min, the future leader of the Seong Shogunate, began seeking allies in the Imperial Senate to back a possible coup d'état to replace the system of government.

Prevalence of Military officials in government
Beginning with Emperor Aidan, the government of Symphonia sought massive integration into the international community. The marriage of Princess Euphemia to Prince Aidan of Reformed Britannia solidified relations between both nations to the extent that Symphonia was a major state participant in all issues in which Britannia was party to. This included membership in a series of international alliances: beginning with the Sovereign Empire's Coalition, Commonwealth of Imperial Nations, the Polaris Initiative, and lastly the International Coalition for Expansion. While diplomatic in some parts, the vast operations of these alliances were military and political in nature. Symphonian forces were engaged in a series of wars on multiple fronts, and played host to several alliance conferences. In addition to that, the constant need for manufacturing and financial power made Symphonia also one of the key members in producing weapons and funding alliance interventions. The need to be able to organize national resources to support operations meant that Aidan and later Lelouch appointed military officials into the government bureaucracy, streamlining the legislative and executive processes.

By the middle of Lelouch's reign, military officials were at the heads of all government ministries save the Ministry of International Relations, which remained under civilian bureaucratic control. When Seong Lee-min approached these ministers for their support, they were willing to back someone whom they had known for a long time and trusted over the scheming Imperial Family. Many viewed that the Kiramashi were dragging Symphonia into wars that only benefitted foreigners, and sought a change in leadership.

Seong Lee-min, military leader; Mun Kai-shin, heir to the Numenor
Seong Lee-min was the head of House of Seong, an aristocratic house that represented the former Duchy of Kaya, on the Sakura Peninsula of Symphonia Propera. The Seong were well regarded as one of the finest military families in the Empire, heading the operations that stopped Verzian aggression, the Aterosian war against Catholic Romagna, and leading the attack that temporarily lifted the siege of Eaglewood City in Castigonia during the Oil War against Griffencrest Corporation. While he initially supported Emperor Aidan during the Constitutional Crisis, he felt that the Kiramashi were no longer fit to rule Symphonia because they were constantly too busy with political intrigue within the Empire to properly deal with its everyday issues. This sentiment was echoed by many conservative members of the Imperial Senate, and he soon found allies in the House of Mun, representing the Marquisate of Gyeongsang in southern Cheonsa.

The Mun, led by Mun Kai-shin, claimed a nominal right to the Throne of Symphonia, directly contesting the Kiramashi for control. Family records state that the Mun were a branch family of the older House of Numenor, which intermarried extensively with the Kiramashi until the First and Second Symphonian Civil Wars forced the Kiramashi to exterminate the Numenor. Seong needed someone, no matter how distant the claim, to have a legitimate connection to the throne, and the Mun needed someone who had enough support to overthrow the Kiramashi. Thus, these two groups were natural allies.

Looks great so far, Woody! Only thing for me is that you mixed up Schwartzgarten and Albertville, blending them into one destination on your list. I may actually come up with actual distinct names for the Schwartzgarten and Albertville Int. airports at some point when I get to it. Maybe even Burgunden and Panoli, too. I want to have a general combined storefront for all NE ports, when I can get better at my formatting here.

Just FYI to all, if you care to read: http://z13.invisionfree.invalid.com/Astyria/index.php?showtopic=24&st=15&#entry22216821

Just a reminder, I still want to hit up more Astyrian storefronts here soon in whatever way I can to reinvigorate our GE&T. Let me know if you need my biz and how best I can do that. I have plenty of puppets to generate more trade, so even if I've applied to you before with NE, doesn't mean I can't again with another.

I hope everyone is hanging in there.
Thoughts and prayers out to my northern neighbors.

Oh, and not to total threadjack the RMB, but I missed this earlier. Going to Chicago, Costa, to see family and friends and the NZ All Blacks at Soldier Field. No joke, seeing the best rugby team in the world is something I can cross off my bucket list, if I had one.
