WA News, Cosmic Edition: The General Assembly resolution "Prohibiting Animal Abuse" was passed 8,882 votes to 3,618. So go home and pet your dog/cat/marmoset/velociraptor/whathaveyou.

Now up for vote is a proposal to establish a "World Space Administration". Beyond that, it doesn't do much except require member nations who actually have spacecraft to make sure they're safe to fly. The proposed WSA would "preform [sic] cosmos research and development" and a host of other space sciencey stuff, but not establish a military or "cosmic police force".

I guess we should be breathing a sigh of relief that the WA are not commissioning Lensmen or Green Lanterns. Anyways, the resolution is a turkey; badly written and with little useful requriments upon member nations. We recommend voting no.

They also telegrammed me. I hate getting cold-telegrams. Vote NO!!!

Hello there, peep! Nice to meet y'all! ⋋( ՞ ▽ ՞)⋌

Eternal Kawaii, I am a simple nation of proles who lacks the effort or brain power to form an opinion of their own. Can you be a dear and play the role of the mass media and instruct me on how I should view this current WA affair, and therefore which direction I should vote in? Cheers luv.

In other news, I just noticed Silentvoice has ceased to exist! When did that happen? What does that mean in terms of maintaining the admin account's security?

And hello Macross City and Marethian lupanar of teladre! A tip' of the fedora and a 'M'lady' if ye be dames.

There are others that can ensure that the creator account stays active.

Ah, sorry we were so delayed on this. "Protection of Sapient Rights" was passed 8,489 votes to 2,438 without our help. This is a Good Thing, btw, as all of the non-human nations out there have been clamoring for something like this for years. So this is a thorn out of the side of the WA.

As for what's currently up for vote, a repeal of the recently passed "World Space Administration" resolution, by all means vote for it. It was a clunker of a proposal that we were shocked to see actually pass. We're not alone at that, as the repeal looks well on its way to passage.

I'm actually not that surprised that the Japanese students wouldn't have known that much about anime. From what I've heard, it's not nearly as popular there as overseas. Apparently they look at people who watch anime there the same way that people here look at college-age adults who sleep until 1 pm & watch cartoons.

Hope and han solo

Then it's settled. We're all we've got! Unite separately in our own homes!

So the way my entire family looks at me; and we happen to Japanese, too. Yeah. Otaku is a definite subculture. The Riajuu never understand.

Sygma and Rk95

I would have thought they'd have some understanding. Like, there are lot of sports that I am not actually interested in, but I have enough knowledge in to discuss simply because it is an aspect of my country's culture. This applies to other areas as well.

They were also relatively young and came from a rural town, these might also be additional contributing factors.

And now I know the word 'riajuu' :D

That's very possible. And you're welcome. Wouldn't want to be a 'niwa otaku,' (someone who tries to be an otaku, but fails at it) for not knowing, right? JK.

WA News, "Cackling Accountants" Edition: General Assembly Resolution #336, "World Space Administration", was repealed 10,051 votes to 3,432. So, back to building your Death Star.

Now up for vote is a rather confusing proposal entitled "National Economic Liberties". We've gone over it several times and think we have worked out what it actually does:
-- It prohibits the WA from levying "earmarked" taxes on member states. Basically, it would make illegal any future proposal where a given WA activity is funded by a mandatory payment from member nations. All WA activities would have to be funded out of the WA General Fund established under GAR #17 (There is a debate in the Assembly hall over whether this proposal actually contradicts GAR #17 and is thus illegal. However, despite the claim by GAR #17's author Omigodtheykilledkenny that the WA General Fund is supplied by mandatory donations, it's our reading of the resolution that the donations are actually voluntary. Thus, there is no conflict.)
-- It prohibits the WA from imposing price controls within member states.
-- It prohibits the WA from charging fees for goods and services rendered, except in the case of the WA HQ (which has preexisting legislation, GAR #8, that allows the WA to charge rent and maintenance fees to member delegations.)
-- It calls upon member nations to prohibit insider trading and to "liberalise" (in the sense of making more open and available) market information. This last clause appears to be an unrelated rider tacked onto the proposal to avoid the appearance of it being an "blocker, and nothing but a blocker" that would be illegal.

As proposals go, we've seen better, but there's nothing really problematic about this one and it does close a few loopholes left open by GAR #17. So we recommend a Yes vote on it.

Rationallia and Rk95

The princess kenny

Actually the author edited the proposal in order to not affect WAGF. It only applies to fees and contributions not used for "general funding."

Hello

WA News, "Your Opinion is Important To Us" Edition: The General Assembly's proposal on "National Economic Liberties" was defeated 9,029 votes to 2,925. We're curious to know why this proposal tanked, so we've published a regional poll. It's open to WA members in the region, preferably those of you who voted on the proposal.

Currently up for vote is a much more popular proposal, "Access to Humanitarian Aid". It's a pretty comprehensive law setting out the rights of organizations providing humanitarian relief in war-torn areas, including making denial of humanitarian relief or theft of humanitarian relief supplies a war crime. Overall, it's a pretty well-written proposal and we recommend a Yes vote on it.
