Tho, the US aint the only ones, South Africa uses a loaned form of soccer too and some other nations too. Tho, football doesnt seem to be that important in most of such nations (US have handegg, baseball and basketball, SA has rugby,...)
The only exception I can think up right now is Croatia, where the word football isnt loaned, all tho football is the de-facto main national sport

Where I live, we call soccer European Football, and Football as just football. That's how we all use it here. Weird.
