Back in the day, the RMB didn't have a history, it was more of an active chat and once something was swept off into the abyss it was gone forever.
There was also no way to suppress posts, so the only way to get rid of region adverts was to push them off and away.
To that end, people in the Pacific posted stats to get all the garbage out. Other regions have similar traditions for the same reason, like TWP's Karaoke Friday.
