Serenity continent sits almost 5,000 miles away from the area. Given the predictions for the size and direction of the waves, following the earthquakes there was no reason to alert them.

Not sure if I would categorize your answer as diplomatic or simplistic but negligent comes up....
Since between the two continents you have several important sea routes and a bundle of cargo ships & commercial ships pass the area (I believe the republic included).
We would have expected more given the information you held.

Bilge rat ronnie

The crew and I took it into our admittedly small heads to make a world tour. Would it be okay if we stopped here for a bit? We bring rum. We're friendly.

The three moons

Not sure how friendly a rat can be (Rum or No rum)
The only time I'm willing to drink rum is while Après Ski is live or when I don't care about hitting a tree on the way down in a red slope.

Not so much a rat as a skeleton with a bandana. There was the squirrel issue back when I was in Yggdrasil, but once we gave the tree rats waterskis that all resolved itself.
Never thought of rum apres ski, but it sounds good.
However, if I'm not welcome, I'll sail on.
Lovely place you have here. I'm leaving a keg of my finest rum for them as like it.

Cant understand people who rush to an expo of sort to buy a piece of ware or game just to be the people who "pre got something". More or less like the obsessed who wait at midnight to buy a new iphone or a book of harry potter.

The book and phone will be with same quality if youll buy them in a week from the date it goes out.
Why the rush?

Back from watching Suicide Squad and I really liked it. One mom had a baby and a seven year old kid watching a movie that was barely not rated R. To be fair I'm mostly jealous that I didn't get to watch movies like this at that age.

I figure there are a lot of critics who didn't like it because they didn't see the villains all become heroes by the end of the movie in some big tranformational moment. They might have wanted it to be a Batman vs the Joker movie, when it was a Suicide Squad movie, as some critics complained there wasn't enough Batman or the Joker. The critics also might have felt that because this wasn't a big franchise like Star Trek or Star Wars they could be more brutal to it, since it's not a mainstream genre film like Driving Miss Daisy and older critics hate these kinds of films. The people making this movie probably spent more on song rights than any other movie I've ever seen and it was money well spent for an action flick.

Humans are hardwired as hunter-gatherers and consumer marketing takes full advantage of that. We've been brainwashed to thinking that buying something before someone else does counts as a big achievement, instead of actually achieving something. In truth new and shiny is cool, but sometimes being that early adopter comes with the baggage of paying to be the quality and assurance testing for a corporation that has made a lot of cuts to the Q&A department.

I prefer to let others - as you said -be the testers before Im going to purchase something. Others testing enable consumers reviews pool, regardless of whether its for buying a car, flying or a new board game

It took me ages to pick my current car. Had to do survey with so many perks list not to mention comparison between forums, experts and so called video demonstration.

At least you arrived to a decision... Congrats.

There is nothing in ns shop that motivates me to buy=support, unless I'm considering a foreign affairs office, running for regional government or looking for a bright future in the spammer industry.

Herzil

I feel the same way, which is why I only used it twice in the last 4 years.
Once to support it by buying the "Postmaster-General" and once to buy 1000 stamps for our Ambassador in Texas.

Texas

Wysteria Embassy in Texas, is happy to announce that we were invited by NewTexas (Texas Founder), to take part in Texas Fantasy football.

The competition/tournament which 1st game will start in Sep 8th, is opened to friends of Texas which of course puts the ball in
Wysteria court as we have an ongoing 12 years going 13 (in 3 months) of friendship with Texas.

This is an interesting way to interact with our allies and it's a good way to let our nation athletes run wild (preferably with a ball in their hands).

More information can be found in our Embassy reports sub forum in Wysteria offsite forum.
I will update the post with new information along the way.

That sounds interesting. I will have a look although I will admit that beside going with my husband twice to a baseball game while in Phily I have no recollection of ever seeing a football match.

I also went with blind choosing & maybe did a bit of digging for information - but mostly picked them blindly. haha.

I was asked by a colleague from Haas faculty in UC Berkeley to review & give a second opinion on a thesis one of his students submitted and I must say I was mind blown by the lack of moral decency.
Its the second time I had the pleasure this year to encounter a student for phd who cheats on his papers in one way or another. As if they think we don't check every bibliography and marks & notes they write down.
I mean the guy or gal worked hard as is to do their masters, why cheat now? unless their masters was a copy paste as well?~!

Thats exactly what they think. I'm sure that if you will check the papers you submitted a century ago :), to your professors, you will notice that you probably had more than 100 Bibliography references.
Even in BA's the references exceed 50 locations So it can very much be that they might have assumed you will check them but not cross reference them or do in depth.
Also, Its common sometimes to hand the actual writing of papers to a professional that will edit the grammar and Bib etc. Could be, they edit more than they should have :)

The three moons

"A century ago"...thanks for reminding me how long ago it was
I have you know my Ba/Masters/phd and others... all exceeded the required references numbers.
When you do research on subjects you like or believe in, its rather hard to confine yourself to the required numbers.
Which also goes to the point that if someone got to the position where they seek the next level of professionalism (Academic wise), you would expect that
1. They will continue their line of thought from their masters (thesis usually share same theory or developed theory based on results in masters)
2. Wont need to cheat when it comes to collecting & submitting data.

Tomorrow we will be celebrating our 500km Aido-Kyoto Trail.
Unlike the typical fanatic tradition, we wont ask you to walk the 500km path on your knees like our Nun Fattty-Ma.
Instead you will be able to walk on your feet or use bicycles.

So Those who will venture into this long long and tedious hike / cycle will be able to get a flower from an old lady every 500 meters (yes, thats 1000 flowers all together).
If you will collect all 1000 flowers and will carry them by yourself in good condition....A toaster oven will be waiting for you at the exit.

Of course, its much easier to just buy the Toaster Oven instead of wasting a lot of money on Doctors after a ruinning your legs and knees in a 500km walk /cycling but who are to judge the fanatics.

A toaster oven?
How is that a motivation?
Even if you are going to hand out flower basket, I doubt it will be enough to carry 1000 flowers ...

Star Trek and Herzil

Back from a star party, wedding, and visiting with family. My cousin, the bride, was on the shooting range at the local rod and gun club (for the reception), in her wedding dress making certain that the clay pigeons remembered her name before she heads back overseas to live in England. It reminded me a lot of the old family photos of the pioneering days of the family, with the ladies in their Sunday best posing with their favourite rifles and shotguns.

The star party was pretty good too; staying up late enough to see Orion rising in the East, as a preview of the autumn skies to come. Another of my cousins was there for that. She won a pair of big binoculars as the big door prize for the night, so I spent a while showing her a bunch of deep space binocular targets.

My parents have started pasturing a small herd of Icelandic sheep, who are much more photogenic than regular sheep. I also ended up picking a few boxes of crab apples, so Equus doesn't lack for things to do when she turns them into crab apple jelly.

I've been married to NationStates for nearly 14 years and it's been a bit rocky sometimes. ;>)
