I'd rather we wage a war to determine which one of these regions is the REAL Texas. I've heard there was at least one other region calling itself Texas as well. Are you sure this is even allowed?

I do not think this is really important. Several players create regions with similar names to represent the same thing differently. But I think when someone goes looking for our region, they're going to want Texas instead of "State of Texas".

Sangchris wrote:Most invaders would note the fact that the WA has no powers, and would go elsewhere. They can only be a temporary nuisance at best and cause you to restart the length of your office. Hope that does not happen too often.

I do not think it's important for a delegate to have executive powers exactly to avoid the danger of the invaders. The main objective of this position is to represent a region in the World Assembly. The only thing I ask myself is: How many consecutive times can a US president be elected again? The 10000 Islands have a different delegate from time to time. Texas is doing very well I do not question that. It's just a debate in time of elections. This is very exciting.

question, how common is it for a fantasy team with a losing record to enter the playoffs? Because that just happened in the league I'm in. I'm the one seed (10-3, woo!) and I'm playing a 6-7 team.

So your saying how common for a team with a worse record then you? If so not common dictating from real life that's my guess. I'm not a fantasy football player at all.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Liberate Kingdom of Ireland
A resolution to strike down Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry in a region.

Category: Liberation Nominee (region): Kingdom of Ireland Proposed by: Grezantime

The World Assembly,

Noting the region of Kingdom of Ireland's"...

<see the Security Council for full text and to vote>

Ok, we have a liberation. You know the drill. Oh yeah, invaders suck!™ NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was down on the last SC vote -- Repeal: "Liberate Eternal Scholars" -- which was defeated after gaining only 46.7% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 4 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 4 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

NewTexas has already voted on this Resolution in advance of publicly expressed opinions. We did this at the urging of many leaders in the World Assembly. As we have been saying for years, Texas is a force in the WA. Many feel that Texas can influence the overall vote if it votes first. There is an observed "lemming effect" that occurs during voting. Apparently a large number of votes are cast based on whichever side of the issue is leading when voters vote. Therefore, to get the most impact from our vote, we are now voting first. We will re-evaluate our original vote at midnight prior to the current vote. As always, we are open to suggestions on how we should vote on this Resolution to most accurately reflect opinion of the populace. Comments are welcome from all nations, both WA Members as well as those who are not. Please make your voice heard on the current issue either on this message board or on our offsite message board. But, by all means, please vote on the WA Page!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All WA Member nations please vote. Please make your opinions known in Texas by 11:00pm Thursday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00pm Texas Time on Friday the 9th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 8727 Votes AGAINST: 3493

As a 10000 Islands member, I feel it's my duty to mention we change delegate every six months. However, a previous delegate can run as many times as they want (just not in consecutive terms).

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new General Assembly Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Compliance Commission
A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security Strength: Mild Proposed by: Imperium Anglorum

Concerned that nations are unwilling to prosecute violators of World Assembly legislation"...

<see the General Assembly for full text and to vote>

Oh great, just great! The General Assembly wants a Compliance Commission now? Can you say Spanish Inquisition? NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!(dun, dun, dun). And, now the WA wants to bring it right out in the open, complete with offices in your nation informing your populace of the Mandates of the World Assembly. Fortunately, the new Commission does not have peacekeeping powers like a previous attempt at something like this. Nor do they have powers to compel you (sounds a little witchy to us) or sue you. However, they are "a truth-seeking commission" (read: spies). Is this an intelligence test one? NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was way down on the last GA vote -- Rights of the Quarantined -- which was passed after gaining 76.1% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 2 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 2 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

My main nation is in the 10000 Islands but if you will allow me I will manifest my vote. The basic principle of logic is: More police and military budget can benefit international security? If the answer is yes the vote is for. If the answer is no the vote is against. I would love to discuss variables that are not exposed in the proposal, but if they are not there it does not have what I discuss. That is why my vote is very simple. For!

Currently:

For: 8,073 (69.7%)
Against: 3,511 (30.3%)

If the main, or only, objective of the delegate was to represent Texas in the WA, then "Head of State" might be a more fitting description. A figurehead with no power over gubmint.

But in the region of Texas, the delegate is both head of state and head of gubmint. Which is much closer to the president's role in the U.S.. Term limits would not change this.

I think what keeps Texans from limiting the delegate's role to head of state is that it would turn that position into a lame duck, or at least perceived that way.

You should also consider similarities between our delegate and the rl governor of Texas. Especially since we elect a governor, not a president.

I agree for the most part. The truth is that even democracies around the world are so different that sometimes it's hard to understand the system, you know? Here in Brazil, for example, the president is elected by direct vote of the population. In the United States the president is elected by indirect vote through delegates. Hillary got more votes from the people and lost the election. For us this is not very democratic, do you understand? But that does not mean that the process was not democratic.

The same thing happens here in the game between different regions. Many of them are democratic, but their system changes according to their number of nations, political ideology, etc. As founder of Texas NewTexas will always be the governor and head of state of the region. But there are more than 30 WA nations in the region, no one can or wants to be delegated? I agree that he does it very well and I also agree that would be a position available only to trusted people like you Richard, Studly Penguins, Amandil, Trecdom2 or others that I do not know. I think change can be interesting at times, you know? And as in the 10000 Islands BigTex could be delegated again, why not?

Ladies and gentlemen I think that's the way I can contribute in any way, by proposing debates, by discussing ideas. We are from countries and cultures so different that we can sometimes learn from each other.

hahahaha do not worry buddy, that's okay. ;)

It's an interesting concept, but personally I have no desire to be WA Delegate. As mentioned before, if enough people don't like Tex in charge they can vote for No Confidence. At least as long as I've been here, that vote has never been in the majority.

Someone at Texas CHAT now? What is the best time to meet everyone there?

Sao paulo wrote:Someone at Texas CHAT now? What is the best time to meet everyone there?

There is usually a regular chat session on Saturdays at Noon Central (UTC -6). That's also 1PM UTC-5/Eastern and 6PM UTC+/- 0/London Time. They'll be a post tomorrow morning about it (which there normally is) with a chat link. You probably won't see every Texan, but I know I'll be there, in fact, I'll probably take the time to field a few campaign questions about my run for Secretary of World Assembly Affairs (that is if anyone asks).

While I'm at it, my apologies for not making a campaign speech yet. I think I'll have one out in a little bit. Stuff just gets in the way sometimes.

Somebody please correct me here if I'm incorrect about any of it.

Yee'hawdy Texas!

Sorry for not making this earlier. Things can just step in the way sometimes. Anyway, I'd like to thank those who have nominated me to become your next Secretary of World Assembly Affairs!!! I have been in Texas for years now, including serving a few Terms on our Texas Representative Council, which is a nice stepping stone to hold this office. Being a logical person, I understand that reading long text like this isn't something everybody does every day. As a result, I'm gonna keep this sweet, short, and to the point.

There are numerous reasons, in fact more than I can count, so I'm just going to bullet point them.

-No tv and no beer has been very inactive. He hasn't logged in for 55 Days and counting. That actually means he'll Cease to Exist briefly if he doesn't log in sometime during this election cycle. That is very bad news. I don't believe Texas has had a cabinet member CTE in office before, and I'm not actually sure what would happen if this did occur. We can't have cabinet members who store themselves in vacation mode and log in to keep the nation alive. We need someone who is active.

-This change is long overdue. The Cabinet hasn't budged a bit since I joined. Not one has actually lost an election. I feel I am fit to take the spot of a inactive cabinet member, having been in this region for 2 1/2 years (roughly) and counting.

-It's change. The Texas Cabinet, at least somewhat, from what I have heard, They have been trying to get more people involved in regional government. Sure enough, not only would I be a fresh face in the cabinet, but I feel I can bring some new ideas to improve our fine region. Texas is already great, why not elect me and make it greater!

-No tv and no beer qualifies for expulsion from the cabinet per article XVII of the Texas Constitution, which clearly states: 1. The Governor of Texas may dismiss any Cabinet or Texas Representative Council member for the following reasons:

a. Prolonged inactivity without warning (defined as 28 days on NationStates or the offsite forum)
b. Gross misconduct
c. Non-compliance with the Texas Constitution
d. The Cabinet member voluntarily moves out of the Region of Texas (for any reason other than military or diplomatic missions as approved by the Cabinet) and takes up residence in another region for a period of 5 consecutive days or a period of 10 days total out of any two-week period.
e. Ceasing to exist
f. The Cabinet member willfully chooses NOT to achieve WA status after being elected or appointed to the Texas Cabinet unless excused from doing so by the Governor.

No TV and No Beer qualifies for Cabinet Expulsion under reason A. It is unacceptable to have inactive cabinet members. Electing me goes a step in the right direction, as I am quite active. I don't answer issues oftenly, mainly because I've seen most of them by this point and I'm happy with my nations status.

-I'm active. I appear in the Texas Chat every Saturday, and I consistently make RMB posts.

-I have experience. I have been a member of the TRC previously. I have been on NationStates for 3 1/2 years, the majority of which has been spent in Texas. I've accumulated over 1,800 forum posts. I have a general understanding of the R/D game and how it works. I even go on a mission occasionally. I had involvement in the successful missions in Scotland and Christmas as a member of the United Defenders League.

Sorry for taking a unusual speech format, but I'm trying to keep this short. Don't forget to vote in this election. It is likely to be a crucial one within the history of our fine region.
