***** Texas Chat Reminder *****

The Texas Weekly Chat Session will be Saturday (TODAY) at High Noon Texas Time (CDT) ***Saturday*** in the Chat Forum on the offsite forum. We have an all new Chat Site for the new year that is much better than the old one. It is here if you want to go straight there: http://texasregion.net/blab70/login.php This is a great opportunity for nations old and new to Texas to find out what is going on! We chat, we debate, we talk about the weather, we talk about stuff we like, stuff we hate, random stuff and more stuff. But, it is never stuffy. Usually, it is about meeting your fellow Texans and talking about the latest and most interesting stuff in NationStates at the moment. But then again, sometimes NationStates does not even come up. It is wide-open chatting with peeps from around The World both IRL and NS. Texas Chat, 528 weeks and running! For the math-challenged, that is over 10½ years! Check it out! Good stuff!

I think I'll have time, but not if I get obsessed over the football simulation game I play on the internet.

Howdy! I'm here from Gay to encourage our governments to swap embassies; I'll hang around for a few days in case we decide to go whole hog and swap ambassadors. Does that suit?

Gay and Texas are about the same size, are both Defenders, and have a similar foreign policy. We both cherish freedom, we both have a regional government, and we both have a Constitution. Both regions know how to have fun! Both of us are widely stereotyped outside of our circles of friends--yes, you can find a drama queen or two in Gay, and no doubt there are some Bubbas in the negative sense here. I think this embassy and possibly exchange of ambassadors will do us both good in exploding stereotypes and will be a lot of fun, to boot.

What say you?

You should make a formal request on the forum. Might take us a little while to respond though.

Thankies for the awesome breakfast Big Tex!

Hhhnnngg! RIP Leonard Nimoy. God-Emperor Vladimir Snyder has decreed that all flags in the Empire of Llama City One will be flying at half-mast for the whole week as we mourned the death of an awe inspiring legend.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new General Assembly Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note for which Resolution. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Wartime Looting and Pillage
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights Strength: Significant Proposed by: Separatist Peoples

Description:

Noting the necessity of military conflict"...

<see page=ga for full text>

Sheesh! A new war Resolution! This is yet another attempt to legislate war. We do not think the WA should be allowed to write the Laws of War. War is war and each conflict varies from the next. There is no "perfect" war that can be run by a book such as the one the World Assembly is attempting to write. Sure, it would be great if every war was scheduled and signed off on before it began, but then again so would world peace and free cookies and milk every day. Our long-standing position has been that war is war and it is not a thing that can be legislated with realistic expectations. Stuff happens during war. While this is Resolution is well-meaning, NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was up on the last GA vote -- Repeal "Nuclear Arms Possession Act" -- which was defeated after gaining only 23.95% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 6 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 6 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

NewTexas has already voted on this Resolution in advance of publicly expressed opinions. We did this at the urging of many leaders in the World Assembly. As we have been saying for years, Texas is a force in the WA. Many feel that Texas can influence the overall vote if it votes first. There is an observed "lemming effect" that occurs during voting. Apparently a large number of votes are cast based on whichever side of the issue is leading when voters vote. Therefore, to get the most impact from our vote, we are now voting first. We will re-evaluate our original vote at midnight prior to the current vote. As always, we are open to suggestions on how we should vote on this Resolution to most accurately reflect opinion of the populace. Comments are welcome from all nations, both WA Members as well as those who are not. Please make your voice heard on the current issue either on this message board or on our offsite message board. But, by all means, please vote on the WA Page!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All WA Member nations please vote. Please make your opinions known in Texas by 11:00pm Tuesday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00pm Texas Time on Wednesday the 4th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 2001 Votes AGAINST: 970

Well I finally took the time to upload my custom banners, which ironically enough come from photographs taken from my trip last year to Bermuda. Come visit my national page. Don't forget to "ooh" and "ah" with every screen change. I'm working on the popcorn now.

Happy Texas Independence Day! For those unaware of the meaning of this day, on March 2, 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas. History was forever changed. For ten years, from 1836 to 1846, Texas existed as a separate and unique nation. In Texas, March 2 is an official state holiday - Texas Independence Day. Each year, there are numerous parades, festivals and even a complete historical reenactment of the event. Happy Texas Independence Day y'all!

And, Congratulations to Lt. Uhura of Star Trek, our Ambassador to Wysteria, on her taking of the Silver Medal in the Giant Slalom in the Cross Regional Games - Winter Edition over in scenic Herzil, Wysteria. Additionally, Hans & Franz, The Sausage Kings of NewTexas slept late today in the Alpinism Event so as to be able to catch Jean Claude Van Damme compete in the Giant Slalom. They did not realize he would make it into the Evening Run and now have to hike all night.

Blue Booted Bobbies, ooh, ahh! Did you really take that orange and blue ocean scene? If you are not a professional photographer, you should consider a career change. That is a spectacular shot!

A linguist, a singer, and a skiier. Miss Uhura is now officially a triple threat.

OMG, when did the UI change?

No, that is one of the stock photos. My four photos are all from Bermuda. One is the Orange House, the other is the Blue House, then there is the one of the capital, and one of the fort next to the docks where the large cruise ships dock.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Repeal "Liberate Democratia"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal Resolution: SC#11 Proposed by: Jean Pierre Trudeau

Description: WA Security Council Resolution #11: Liberate Democratia shall be struck out"...

<see page=sc for full text>

Oh boy, we have yet another Repeal! Yay! This one passed in November, 2009. Texans were all split over hair-splitting becuase the original author copied another Liberation Resolution and changed the name. So freaking what? Liberations should just be a form with a name of who to liberate anyway. Subsequently, Texas sided with the invaders and voted 5 for and 6 against. It passed anyway, but was really a stain on our honor. So, let us get rid of this becuase the invasion is over, the liberation is over, the region has been refounded by invaders and frankly, we are tired of hearing about it. As a reminder, the issue here is the REPEAL of the existing law. A vote AGAINST this Resolution means you are in favor of the existing law and do not want it repealed. A vote FOR this Resolution means you want the law off the books. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was down on the last SC vote -- Commend Luna Amore -- which was passed after gaining 86.17% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 3 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 3 FOR and 0 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!
