A quick tip to improved a grilled cheese sandwich:
Coat the interior sides of the bread with butter (or margarine, mayonnaise, or Miracle Whip as suits your taste). Fry it in butter or margarine until the cheese gets gooey and devour!
The microwave is fine for softening/melting butter or margarine, just don't take it past that. 30-60 seconds will suffice for most microwaves. You can also use it to soften ice creams, sorbets, and gelattos. 20-30 seconds will be fine; you don't want to melt it.
BEARNATION’S MACARONI AND CHEESE
• 8 oz macaroni
• 2 lbs of cheddar cheese, grated (experiment with cheese combinations)
• 3 eggs
• 2.5 cups of evaporated milk
• 4 Tbl margarine or butter
• 1 tsp salt (less or none if the cheese is salty)
• 1 tsp pepper
• (optional: 1/2 cup sour cream)
• (optional: ½ cup cream cheese)
• (optional: 1 finely minced hot pepper)
• (optional: 2.5 oz pressed ham, diced)
Boil macaroni 6 minutes and drain.
Beat eggs into milk [I usually add the spices and hot pepper and mix in the blender].
Combine all ingredients and stir; mixture should be very slushy.
Pour mixture into casserole dish.
Bake at 375° F for 45 minutes or until the top is moderately browned.
Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Recipe can be halved for fewer servings/small casserole dish.
Recipe can be made beforehand and kept in refrigerator overnight or in the freezer for longer periods.
