What map slot are you in?

Rio de fuego wrote:What map slot are you in?

5D. You can check the political map, it has been updated.

Do you know who updated that map? That is not the political map. The political map is a plain black and white label-less map containing only borders.

I assume Geniocratics. When I click on the political map it looks the same as the regular map but my country is on it instead.

Hello new region! Once I'm on my laptop I'll get to reconfigurating my fact books to align with the region!

Hoping for some good roleplaying. The old region although great in its own right had a dire lack of good roleplaying.

Hey, welcome to the region! If you want to do some RPing you'll have to fill out the application first. You can find the link on the main region page. Fill it out and send it to me or Geniocratics and we'll get you a slot on the map!

My bad. I'll fix that.

Because logic can shove it.

Rio de fuego wrote:Actually arabs didn't invent curved swords (multiple different cultures did). Central asian horse people were the most prolific users and spread it the most. The scimitar, on which the sabre is based, comes from the turks. Whose service as mercenaries for the caliphate brought it to the Arabic world.

Likely in Austritaria the Groznyjans and their ilk (Aranovites, Kastovakii, early Fuegans) would have been the heaviest users of curved swords and it would have spread from there.

Did you get all of this from looking at wikipedia articles? You said something about binge-reading pages about swords a while back.

Also I didn't mean he invented them. I forgot the region isn't a slightly altered Earth at the time I posted.

Mainly yeah.

I'd like to remind people that Austritaria is trying to deviate from Earth-like history as of recent. Just because the curved sword was invented by horse lord dothraki in the real world doesn't mean that slavic cultures had to invent it in Austritaria.

Maybe the Loresians invented them, they probably wanted their swords to be as straight as they were.

Jesus Christ, Windows 10 looks and handles like a buttered orgasm compared to 8.

But it does without a doubt make the most sense. Scimitars and the like are designed to be effective on horseback, a big horselord tribe developing it to match their needs of slashing lightly armoured peasants make more sense than knights wearing full plate armour who when fighting other knights would just have their swords dinking off others.

I wasn't saying the slavs should invent them because slavs. Slavs invent them because they're on horseback, and a weapon like a sabre is most effective on horseback.

It's the same reason agrarian groups didn't invent the saddle or domesticate the horse, they'd have no reason to.

Yeah, it's infinitely better than 8.

Absolutely, but that doesn't mean the sword couldn't have been developed separately at around the same time in Shiinraa. Just because in the real world it was invented by slavs and eventually coming to the middle east doesn't mean that we should follow the same historical path of the usage of the sword migrating through different cultures in Austritaria, too.

Rio de fuego wrote:Yeah, it's infinitely better than 8.

I haven't got it and I think I might stick with 7 for a while. I don't know how it'll effect a lot of games or whatever. Not to mention the awkward privacy issues with Windows 10.

Yeah, but that culture should be majority mounted for that to make sense.

Also in real life it wasn't made by slavs.

But its makes a lot less sense for someone with no actual mounted history to develop it. It'd be like Iceland first developing the tank.

You say that as though you undoubtedly know that Shiinraa doesn't have any mounted history

Geniocratics wrote:You say that as though you undoubtedly know that Shiinraa doesn't have any mounted history

And you say that as though he has a massive horse tribe.

Geniocratics wrote:You say that as though you undoubtedly know that Shiinraa doesn't have any mounted history

I mean if he does more power to him, but if he's based on arabs I don't think it's super likely.

Groznyj leich wrote:And you say that as though he has a massive horse tribe.

Then we're both being assumptious. We'll just wait for Shiinraa's input I guess
