The Lemmingtopian Assembly has passed a resolution congratulating The Assembly and Demos of Madrocea on the return of their government to the historic capital and welcome them all Madroceans back into the worldwide community, embodied by the World Assembly, with open arms.

In a room in the Senate Palace, recently renamed 'the Palace of Democracy'

The envoy puts down his pen and remarks to his peers,

"What the hell?! With de-escalation between Madrocea and Tarligean, the two naval groups the old government sent to keep the peace will return!

A portly man looks up from his dinner plate to respond with an exasperated look about him,

"And so what? We need more troops to hunt down the Democratic Defence Faction before they do something so stupid and catastrophic that all the nations in Atlantis will move in to destroy us."

The envoy looked at his colleague with disbelief at his stupidity....

"The whole world thinks that the Democratic Defence Faction runs Lemmingtopias. The Legions these Naval groups carry will also think this because our communications with them have been jammed. They will either move in and declare martial law or, worse, will reconquer the capital on behalf of the Queen."

The portly fellow goes a deep shade of purple.

"Why did I ever get into politics?" he bellowed.

"Because your name was picked in the lottery you bloody idiot."

Greetings to all nations of Atlantis!
This is the first newsletter of Atlantis, with the purpose of letting you know the latest news of the region and any upcoming events.
1. Abdication of the Throne and Delegate Election
The Teachings of Lemmingtopias has announced, this week, that he will be abdicating the throne and handing it over to the elected Delegate once the election has concluded. This means that the power of the region will be in elected hands from henceforth in a move towards democratic principles. The intentions have been welcomed by most nations. The election for the next WA Delegate has been called for the 27th June, 2011. Anyone who is already on the regional map is able to stand and can post their manifesto on the forum from now. The deadline for manifestos to be submitted is the 26th of June. So far, three candidates have come forward and you can see their manifestos and question them here: http://www.atlantian.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=181
2. The Atlantis Festival
The first Atlantis Festival will take place to coincide with the Delegate Election and preparations are under way. The Festival will take place from the 27th June to 1st of July and shall include the Trident Football Cup, Arcade Madness, a regional marathon and more. If you have an idea for an event, please let me know and we can arrange it.
The Festival will also include a regional summit, to which every nation in Atlantis is invited. The Summit is a good place to raise and discuss ideas upon how we will progress and what direction the region will take over the next few months as well as to propose regional laws or raise any issues or disputes. More details on the Festival and Summit will follow in the next few days.
3. Regional map
The regional map, originally created by Marie Byrd Community, has re-opened for territorial claims. You can claim your territory on the map here: http://www.atlantian.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=844
The reintroduction of the map has opened up further possibilities for roleplay and you are invited to take part in the variety of the ongoing ones on the forum, or start your own :)
4. Atlantis Sports
The last month or so has seen regional sports emerge with the Atlantis Football Champions Cup taking place, in which Mestra emerged champion after beating Rogue shadows in the final. Rogue shadows is now hosting the first ever regional Quidditch Cup. More sports are bound to follow. If you have any ideas for regional sports events, you can start them up in the Valley of the Seven Sages area of the forum.

An Update on the Situation in Lemmingtopias

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

As you will have been made aware, the Lemmingtopian Government was peacefully overthrown by a mass movement with a view to establishing a more democratic system in our nation. The Assembly has given us the power to negotiate on its behalf and reach a consensus with the Queen and the Lemming Sage.

Unfortunately, in the aftermath of the bloodless revolution, a very bloody incident was carried out by the Democratic Defence Faction (DDF) - the murder of all Senators of the old government, various Industry Leaders and high-ranking civil servants aligned to the old regime. Subsequently, attacks have been made on those critical of the new democratic system. In all, several thousand have been killed.

The vast majority of Lemmingtopians, including successive Assemblies, are against these acts. However, due to the military support of the DDF, they have been able to jam communications and make it appear that they are in fact in control in Lemmingtopias. This is not the case. We have now begun the fight back against the DDF, with many military leaders now defecting from the DDF. We are beginning to take back the security of our nation.

We wish to assure you that, despite some skirmishes between the Assembly controlled forces and the DDF controlled forces, there has been almost no disruption to the lives of ordinary Lemmingtopian people. The situation on the streets is largely of peace and order. Fighting is almost exclusively being contained to a few countryside regions where high-level communications infrastructure are housed.

We are open to talks with the Queen of Lemmingtopias and/or the Lemming Sage. However, we feel it would not be prudent at this time to invite them to Lemmingtopias for talks - this, we feel, would exasperate the situation and shift the focus of military engagements from the relative safety of the countryside to the densely populated urban areas. Therefore, if any secure nation would be willing to host a conference for negotiation, we will turn up with a view to reach consensus.
