Hey guys, looking for some advice; I've read that a good way to get into NS Sports and get yourself some experience is to set up a domestic news-wire for a sport, and I've been meaning to do one for the football in my nation, but does anyone have any tips? Not quite sure how to go about it, my first time. Been reading others to get a feel but I know AO is home to some awesome NSSport-ers and would appreciate any pointers.

First post, IMHO, should be an overview of your league and its structure and includes a note that the thread is for your use only. Second post I'd reserve for history. Doing these can make things easier later on.

As far as operating it, the best trick is to go at a pace that you can keep up with where it's still fun. I'd also start small, maybe with 8-12 teams that play 3-4 legs against each other in a season. That way its easier to roster them and and RP them in some detail if you wish. Also, if you're willing to make a commitment to scorinating your league, you might be able to snag some free transfers off the most recent transfer sheet.

But remember that rosters, graphics, etc., are all optional.

Well way I'm looking at it right now isn't entirely small, 2 leagues; a main "Champion's" league and then a secondary "Junior League", with 16 teams in the CL. I have scorinated a test season for testing using NSFS and I think it went pretty well and realistic, no odd 15-0 upsets, and I have most rosters nailed down for them and some background history.

A question I have is what is the best way to use NSFS (or xkornate, though I have fewer experiences with it), to represent dynasty's overtime, as in if Preston FC gets 3 titles in 5 years, I'd like to represent that in a little bonus but not too sure on how to do it. i've noticed a rank option but I"m not entirely sure how to use it or determine the value to put in.

You might find this useful for that: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wxju5v5fmspv16p/Skill%20Generator%20v1p1%20Export.xlsb?dl=0

It's basically a spreadsheet that gives you a score you can put in the skill section of xkoronate (or NSFS, though you'll have to transfer manually), and the score is based on inputs of up to 6 seasons worth of results.
You can do something similar without going that complicated, of course. Wether you choose to use it or not, it might be useful in giving you a heads up on how to generate a ranking score.

(If you do choose to use it, I'd appreciate a TG with some feedback, either to this account or to Barunia

Thank you :). The tips and that spreadsheet were helpful and I'm slowly making my domestic leagues now; didn't took the 'small' advice so it's taking me a bit to roster my teams but I'm like 60% of the way through, and then I just need to make kits for them all.

A question that's popped up into my head is pacing in regards to how quickly you post updates to your league. I have my teams playing 33 games each, I was thinking about taking that to 36 and then posting once a week doing games in groups of 12, that way in 3 weeks, a "season" would be concluded. Is this sound, should I space it out more or is this entirely something that's up to me and my comfort level?

Again, totally up to you.

The only external consideration you might want to have in mind is whether you want to enter teams to UICA competitions (which you will see in the Domestic Soccer Newswire thread), in which case, you'll want to release one season's worth of results before each UICA deadline.

Side note, there are various "player generators" around if that would speed up the rostering process. Dunno how you're doing that bit though.

Right now, I've found a random British name generator and been picking out the names I like, and then assigning numbers from a random integer generator. It's a bit of a slow process, I'm gonna look into that player generator idea, thanks.

Speaking of numbers, never underestimate the power of Roman Numerals and spelled-out intergers when naming those who "strike" daggers into your opponents. ;)

Surely, you can't mean notorious footy assassin Ninety-Three X?

(possibly) interesting sidenote here: the common usage of terms relating to death for prolific attackers in football ("hitman", "poacher", "deadly", "lethal" etc) partially led to Desmond Morris suggesting in "The Soccer Tribe" that football is, psychologically speaking, a sort of metaphor/analog for tribal warfare. Meaning that scoring a goal is, symbolically, killing. Others have explored the idea that prolific goalscorers think differently on a fundamental level. Almost like how psychopaths don't think like the rest of us.

Some really cool inferences can be made if you run with that idea. Like does that mean the best strikers are outsiders in the same way goalkeepers are (which makes sense, given that they are at directly opposite ends of the symbolic murder spectrum in football) ..? Or if we consider that the best set piece takers develop a reputation for "burying" "dead balls" ... does that make Andrea Pirlo a flamboyant funeral director?

...erm ...as you were.

Laaaaaame :P

It's more rewarding and fun to invent your own names!

I believe it was George Orwell who remarked that sport is "war without the shooting." At the very least, we can point and laugh at biting Suarez...

I believe it was Douglas MacArthur who remarked "on the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that on other days, on other fields, will bear the seeds of victory."

Jaysus, he must be getting on a bit.

My dad liked Fortran when he were a "lad". Always used to talk about him.

Anyone good with forum formatting care to lend a hand? Finally got all my top tier rosters out and finalized, ready to start the first season but I want to display a column sheet with Wins, Losses, Draws, GF, GA, Pts etc. and I have absolutely zero idea's how to work that out with forum formatting; unless there's a guide I'm missing somewhere? >.>

There is a way to do tables but the easier way is to format it in notepad and wrap it in [pre] tags so it stays the same on the forum.

Looking good, nice and detailed; you do appear to be missing a game from MD8 for some reason, don't know if that's deliberate or not.
