In 12 hours, i'll go from no prisons to delicious privatized prisons.

Everything must be privatized.

Yes, even your dog.

Your dog is now owned by a monopoly, deal with it.

Absolutely everything.

I don't know the full story, but I've been told that the Aussies were forced into it. Also, the two who were executed had been in prison for ten years and had reportedly been "fully rehabilitated". In addition, the prisoners who were executed were in the middle of an appeal. Also, there have been allegations of bribes being made to the courts, though I don't think that's been proven. Speaking of corruption, you gotta love Sepp Bladder. He's totally innocent of any wrongdoing of any kind.

The Aussies who were executed weren't forced into it. They were the ring leaders and they were the ones who threatened to kill the other smugglers families if they didn't go along with their plans. I don't believe that there is any excuse for what they did. However, I'm opposed to the death penalty as it doesn't do anything to deter crime. There was serious mishandling on both sides (Indonesia and Australia). But the Indonesian President was too weak to move for a compassionate decision to imprison for life instead of executing them.

Many Indonesians are strongly supportive of the death penalty simply because it has been in statute for a long time. They've only relatively recently overcome a long standing period of dictatorship where questioning and innovation was not encouraged. The younger generation is starting to actively question the status quo and the emerging class of academics in Indonesia seems to be against the death penalty on the basis that the Indonesian justice system is inherently corrupt and that no system is 'good' enough to take another's life.
