There is no adequate means of explaining the gamut of reasons behind my recent absence from this site save a long message board post that approaches the character limit. All of you who have had to sit in silence for the last three months as I completed my third year of college are deserving of a better explanation than this one, but I fear that it is all I can offer at the present moment.

I may or may not have informed you that I accepted a position as a chapter officer of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society back in June 2012. The first half on my one year term was not particularly burdensome, but the second half has thus far been a challenge that I will not miss. Two other officers abandoned their duties, the chapter president and faculty adviser spent months in power struggles, and the chapter repeatedly deviated from its standard operating procedures and cut corners, often resulting in bad communication and make-work projects. I also accepted responsibility for organizing a tournament on campus, only to find my committee being hijacked on some days and several members going AWOL on others.

In addition to these things, I have had to manage three accelerated classes, three major group projects, and navigate the steep learning curve of my calculus class. I have spent many man-hours organizing and planning my transfer to a four-year university and changing my campus, major, and other details. The last month has been a continuous mad dash through religious obligations, projects, the tournament, transfer paperwork, setting up a summer job, volunteering for an online education ministry, homework, and exam preparations.

Thank God it all ends this week. My exams, last few papers, and a volunteer assignment will all be over by Friday. I will still have a summer class to arrange and some other work to do, but my involuntary hiatus will end. I will finally be able to spend more than an hour or two every few days reading just to keep pace with what is happening in NS. I will at last be able to resume writing and those other NS-related things I do best.

The tournament succeeded (modestly) and I have placed it on my résumé with another academic award. I now have six credits and a perfect GPA with my university, tied another student for the highest final exam grade in my calculus class, and walked off with a 95% on my managerial accounting exam. I made it out of the semester in one piece, ran a fundraiser yesterday night, and I resumed writing for Utopias after I returned home.
