THIS IS NOT A BACKPEDAL:

I notice that several of our WA members have voted for the Condemnation. I recognize these concerns, but I would like to hear what everyone in the region is thinking, and more to the point I don't want to make an official, public announcement that fails to adequately hear the other, presumably autocratic, allegedly fascist, and quite possibly trolling side's reasons and arguments.

(But as a personal choice I've voted for the Underground. Still, that's MY personal vote and should not influence anyone else's decision.)

I apologize for the quadruple post (one post was incomplete), but there has been an announcement posted at the forum by our friends in Osiris.

All forum members, please go to that topic, labeled in a very efficient and comprehensible manner. As one can probably see from their embassy situation (aka removing embassy with The Pacific which is an ally of the NPO regime that leads the coup), Osiris supports the previous regime. I hope that other Monkey Islanders can be aware of this situation. We must make a comprehensive, roughly united stance with an informed opinion.

Again, the NPO/NLO is invited to defend themselves. Clearly, many of us here object to what they have done. Well? I refuse to assume foul play in this situation. Please, explain what you have done here so that all can hear your side of the truth.

SIGH

And other article has appeared! (Please don't ban me):

page=dispatch/id=401241

A Rejected Times article explaining more of the situation. Do note that part of it is an opinion piece. The offer for NLO to talk still stands, but I understand completely any attempts to veto this proposed discussion. Still, I feel that we don't have the entire picture yet.

Whelp, serving as TNP's WA Minister has granted me the option to see a lot of what goes on behind the scenes, at least from TNP's perspective. I've seen a lot of the off-site communication, including some not made fully public. The motivation in all ways appears to have been ambition and greed. Certainly, to have a single individual put their ambition and greed above the needs of the region as a whole and every individual nation is abhorrent to stoic supporters of democratic rule like ourselves. Regardless of what the situation in Lazarus, it is in the best interest for MI to publicly stand against illicit coup attempts. Our security and reputation therein demands nothing less.

Had the existing government supported this coup, I might have shut up, but the Lazarene government, almost to a man, has defected to the Underground Government headed by Funkadelia. There is no official support for the regime. It sustains itself off of what Franco's Spain would have called the inactive proletariat: part-time players who don't understand Gameplay and are, therefore, easy to manipulate. There is no legitimacy, and anything short of an open recognition of the LUG is a gob of spit in the eye of rightfully elected governance for regions, especially GCRs.

There you have it. And it looks like practically all news and informative sources agree. At this point I wonder why certain people risk their otherwise fruitful careers and reputations to back the coup.

As the newly elected Vizier of Osiris I have been closely monitoring this unfolding situation.
I find it to be most distressing. O for the good ole days of lazy beaches and rum.....

If I may, though, the sheer speed at which this:

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=337966

Was proposed and accepted just reeks of petty retaliation. Perhaps a dual commendation and condemnation would be in order. This repeal doesn't seem to address the rest of the target's career in question, even though the target's recent actions are startling based on a previous history of meritorious service.

But don't get me wrong, comrades, this:

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=337197#p24198572

Is more like a genuine repeal. It addresses the previous commendation and shows why it no longer applies.

It is a pity that several of these formerly esteemed members of the WA should take a lower path. It seems the saying is true, then: power (or influence, fame, praise, what have you) corrupts, and it corrupts absolutely.

Considering their very much consolidated base, its not as though the international community can do anything. The only commodity or weapon of value is endorsements, and they're sitting on a feeder. They have it made better than 16th century Spain did in the silver market...

Update... While I still believe that the first draft was an act of petty retaliation, subsequent edits have indeed addressed the current situation as well as AMOM's place within the WA.

The following quote from the current resolution at vote: "Observing that in light of recent events, assertions made by SC#75 that A mean old man should be commended as a "champion of justice and order in the world" are now far from the truth, as the nation has championed injustice in Lazarus and discord between the New Pacific Order and allies and friends of Lazarus"

Expresses why SC#75, while an accurate assessment of several hallmarks in AMOM's distinguished career, is no longer accurate as the spirit of the Commendation has been renounced by the commended party in question. I for one have voted for the repeal, even when considering the repeal author's rationale behind it.

In their haste, the SC authors are having something of an "ends justify the means" orgy. They know the best way to punish the coup perpetrators is to take away their achievements, not to give them shiny condemnation badges, which many people actually want. This is a very measured and reasonable approach that is losing something in translation.
