Yeah they have a weird way of selecting the better teams. I mean Romania is ranked the 19th... and we take serious beatings from weak teams...

The Glorious Republic of Rubyna wrote:But why Prague? Why not, for example, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, or London? Now, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Prague. Prague is an extremely beautiful and culturally influential city, but my question is, how would the EU theoretically pick a capital city?

And why Paris, London, Berlin or Madrid? Prauge is "too on East"? Prague is good choice. Central Europe. Big city. Slavic one, of course. And it has long history as capital. Prague was the biggest city of Holy Roman Empire. It's a great city or princess Libush. She done great job.

Interestingly Turkey (which some on this site do not believe is in Europe) is ranked 13, whereas England (10) and Wales (24) are listed higher than Russia (27) also in Group B.
It should be interesting especially as the Copa America runs at the same time with arguably more intersting match-ups.
Mh

I wish we could go back to 2008. I miss Nihat Kahveci. Turkey-Czech Republic was the best game I watched in my life.

Current team isn't so good but they managed to qualify somehow.

If we're gonna go with the HRE we might as well take the city where the Emperors were elected and crowned and which already is the financial capital of the EU (seat of the ECB).

Of course as a Frankfurter I'm totally not biased...

Prague is neatly in the middle of Europe, is quintessentially European, and it seems to be the meeting point between what we consider Western and Eastern Europe. It is an Alpha city (according to the Global City ranking, to which I agree mostly) and I have yet to meet a peerson that wasn't positive about Prague.

I reckoned Vienna is also not a bad choice, but I stick to Prague, since I think it would mean a lot to have a former 'Eastern Block' city as a capital.

And sure, other cities in Europe have more economical importance. But let's look at the US, Brazil and Australia: their capitals are not the capitals of the country because of their economic importance, but rather because they represent the symbolical centre of their respective countries.

Now, I feel that because all of this Prague is the average of the EU and what people would consider European. I therefore think it should be the EU capital in the hypothetical scenario the EU would become a federal state.

You both make a great case for Prague!
