Part VII, The Re-Branding of the Wysterian Coalition

Even more so than any other alliance, the Wysterian Coalition is defined by its conflicts with other Wysterian alliances and nations. They manage to attract a few new nations to the dictator club, but they are all silent members, leaving Lusus and the Sacred Skull to continue to be the driving force of the alliance. Banfactor joins early in the year, seeking help to put down a rebellion. Also joining the Coalition are Salea, Carnusian, and Ulanpataar. The Salean membership bid confuses many political analysts, as they try to join both the Wysterian Union and the Wysterian Coalition, alliances that have been at each other’s throat since the inception of the latter.

When the Wysterian Union seeks to end the endless war with the Wysterian Coalition, talks are organized. The ZaKommian Trade Master of the Sacred Skull agrees to talk only if the Union will meet their conditions. Firstly, they must cease all trade and diplomatic relations with the Grendels, who have long been enemies of the Coalition. Secondly, they must agree to stop meddling with Coalition business, wherever that may be, including in Salea and Nephia. Thirdly, the Trade Master demands the surrender of eighty-two Union war criminals, so determined as criminals by the Wysterian Coalition, for contesting their wars of conquest in Nephia and other battlefields of Wysteria. Fourthly, the Trade Master demands hefty reparations paid by individual members of the Wysterian Union, including reparations to be paid by nations that no longer exist, with these costs to be borne by the remaining Union membership. Not surprisingly, the Wysterian Union rejects all the terms out of hand that have been laid out by the Coalition.

In August, after Nashban has effectively burnt all its diplomatic bridges it declares war on both Rebaltion (representing the New Seattle Pact) and the Wysterian Coalition. They expect that this bold move in diplomacy will bring the Wysterian Union and the rest of Wysteria running to defend them. They are of course wrong. While fighting a bloody border war against Rebaltion, the Wysterian Coalition prepares to invade, forcing Nashban to surrender unconditionally, becoming a protectorate of the Coalition. The Trade Master of the Sacred Skull proposes that the Coalition seize the much-contested Clark Strait, which divides the two Aldarons Isles of the continent. They feel that it is the perfect time to strike, with Caphtoria weakened from their recent wars and the Wysterian Union in a state of rapid decline. Lusus feels that the Coalition could take and hold Clark Strait against the Union, but not against the rest of Wysteria that would no doubt mobilize against the closure of a vital trade route. The vision that Lusus has for the Wysterian Coalition is to re-brand the alliance, leaving behind their legacy as an insane dictator’s club and making them into a formidable trade alliance. When Nashban was being conquered, their colony, New Nashban, was already in the process of becoming an independent state. There is some debate about whether or not New Nashban is now a colony of the Wysterian Coalition. The breakaway colony’s defiance results in military action by the Coalition. The Nashban occupation and the fighting over their colonies becomes the primary military campaign of 2008.
1 day, 2 hours ago FlagThe Green and Pleasant Dominion of The Bruce The New Seattle Pact approaches the Wysterian Coalition to begin peace talks. The communist alliance offers to pull out of the fighting in Lower Zermany, a fragile protectorate of the Sacred Skull; to pay reparations; and give mining rights in a contested mountain range, on the Rebaltion-Nashban border, for five years. In exchange for this, the New Seattle Pact expects no interferences in their revolutions across Wysteria by the Coalition. Should a Pact revolution affect a Coalition member, they will mediate the problem instead of resorting the old stand by of immediately going to war. Also, the New Seattle Pact asks that the mining done in the contested mountain range by done solely by workers from Rebaltion.

The Trade Master counters the offer by demanding free trade with New Seattle Pact members Sataia and Rebaltion, including the right to market their mind control drugs within these two nations. The Pact is willing to discuss trade, but feel the marketing of dangerous drugs to their citizens is completely out of the question. Lusus adds that if any product, including any harmful drugs, are traded legally in any New Seattle Pact member state that the Coalition would have the right to export them to any Pact nation. Lusus also demands that the New Seattle Pact send workers to Nashban to repair damages caused in the border war between Rebaltion and Nashban. The Coalition adds that the Pact must give reparation stipends to the families of any Nanish soldier killed during the border war and that the Pact must reduce their naval presence in the strategically valuable Clark Strait. The Pact must also allow the soldiers of the Coalition to occupy the contested territory, from the recent Rebaltion-Nashban border war, to establish a buffer zone. In return, the Wysterian Coalition will lift their naval blockades on any New Seattle Pact member. Not surprisingly, the talks fall apart due to the excessive demands made by the Coalition. Partly this is out of nature and partly because they mostly used the talks to torment their enemies. Fighting resumes in the mountains between Rebaltion and Nashban. The arrival of the Centauri fleet breaks the naval blockade of Lusus against Rebaltion, setting back the domination of the New Seattle Pact by the Wysterian Coalition. Later in the year, with fighting in the contested mountains on their border still at a standstill, the New Seattle Pact once more approaches the Coalition to seek peace.
