Caracalla murdered between 5000 and 20,000 citizens of Alexandria in their hippodrome so that he could claim to have conquered Egypt. He ambushed and murdered the Parthian king as that king came at Caracalla's invitation to be married to a nonexistant sister of Caracalla, so that he could say that like Alexander, he had conquered Persia. BTW, Caracalla's invasion failed dismally and that is when he proceeded to Alerxandria. |
