The Confederate States of Spizania is a colossal, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 9.943 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Social Equality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 75%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing, Automobile Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining industries.

Scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, Spizania's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, the government has declined to declare any particular religion as its 'official' one, and the Federal Council of Spizania has been announced as the new Head of State. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Spizania's national animal is the shetland zebra, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Shilling.
