The Empire of Mengjiang is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Genghis Khan of Mengjiang with an iron fist, and remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5.108 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Information Technology.
Billions of Mengjiang Dollars are being blown on orbital weapons development, university graduates and new home-owners toil in labour camps to work off their debts, suppression of pro-democracy protests is a daily occurrence, and much of Mengjiang's computer network is controlled by a rampant artificial intelligence. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Mengjiang's national animal is the Great White Horse, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Tibetan Buddhism, and its currency is the Mengjiang Dollar.
Mengjiang is ranked 3rd in the region and 51,561st in the world for Highest Unemployment Rates.
