European Union - European Court of Justice, Apr-Aug 2016

The current LinkEuropean Court of Justice was elected on 4th April, 2016, for a four-month term in office. You can find out more about the institution of the ECoJ in our LinkIntroduction and our LinkConstitution. Its current composition is thus:

Chief Justice - Salim Joubran, Angleter

Chief Justice Joubran gained a degree in Law in 1968, and qualified a year later. Originally practising Criminal Law, with the promulgation of the Angleteric Constitution in 1973 he decided to retrain and become one of the country's first Constitutional lawyers. He practised Constitutional Law for the next 35 years before being elected President of the Royal Association of Legal Practitioners in 2009. He served in that post for a full five-year term.

Joubran announced his candidacy for the European Court of Justice in October 2015, and in an election where all five candidates were automatically elected to the ECoJ, he was elected Chief Justice with 60% of the vote in the runoff against Nara al-Kahina. He ran for re-election in March 2016 and, with all five candidates once again elected by default, was re-elected Chief Justice with 57% of the vote in the run-off against Hubert Christian.
