EBC Radio: What is Mixlr and EBC Radio?

What is the EBC?
The EBC is short for the Europeian Broadcasting Corporation. It is the communication branch of the Europeian government and is responsible for a number of the media articles that are published each term, the EBC Wire, and EBC Radio. Traditionally, it is governed by the Minister of Communications, which can be viewed on the LinkEuropeian Forums.

What is EBC Radio?
EBC Radio is the audio broadcasting arm of the EBC. We have all sorts of content, and there's sure to be something to suit your interests. Our previous broadcasts can all be found linked through the indexes listed in the header. The Master Chronological Index lists all of the broadcasts listed on our LinkShowreel, with the most recent broadcast listed first.

We also have a number of more specific dispatched Indexes to make it easier for players such as yourself to find more of a particular kind of show that interest you. There will be greater detail (and highlighted examples) later on, but as a quick recaps, these are how the indexes are currently split.

  • Interviews - A spotlight is on a specific individual (or group of individuals), as they are interviewed by the host of the program. These tend to be very interactive shows if you're able to attend the live broadcast, as the host will take questions from the audience in the Mixlr chat, and ask them of the guest(s).

  • Information & News - These are geared towards being more informative and educational. If you're looking to get started in Europeia, some of these broadcasts may provide greater insight into the details of how Europeia works and how you can get involved.

  • Talk Shows - Talk shows presented by EBC Radio vary greatly depending on the host and focus. As with all EBC Radio broadcasts, there's a great deal of interaction with listeners that are present for the live broadcast, but some talk shows may be an individual's discussion of an issue that's important to them, a talk show where they chat with a few guests, or something else entirely.

  • Game Shows - Game shows are just what they sound like, interactive contests with contestants on-air and also with those on the broadcast.

  • Music - Just what it sounds like, this is a show often hosted by one or more Europeians as they go through some of their favorite musical selections.

What can you tell me more about a particular type of show?
Certainly! Just click on the relevant spoiler tag for whichever one you want to know more about.

Interviews
We've interviewed a number of players over the course of EBC Radio, although the scope of those interviews has varied over the years.

When our candidates for elected office in Europeia are Mixlr-capable, we try to conduct interviews with them, to allow voters to get a better sense of the candidates. You'll see a number of these referenced as "Presidential Candidate Interview" or "Senate Candidate Interview." If you're interested in running for elected office, I'd suggest listening to some of these to get a feel for what sorts of questions you might be asked after you declare your candidacy.

All of our interviews take questions from the live Mixlr audience, which may be added to previously prepared questions. There are some interviews where the target of the interview is only the host, and the questions asked and answered come solely from the audience. Interviews are some of the most interactive shows that we broadcast, and we encourage you to tune in to future interviews and participate in the questioning and conversation.

Information & News
The Information & News segment of our Mixlr broadcasts are geared towards informing and educating those within Europeia. There's a lot to do and discover and explore within our region, and it can be hard to get a handle on everything.

Specifically, we strongly encourage players to listen to the CSO Chats, which answer a bunch of questions about the opportunities available to players within the region's Civil Service Officium.

Information & News is a relatively underserved area of our Mixlr content to date, but we are working on providing more informative content for newcomers to help them get acclimated. If you have ideas for new content that should be covered in this area, please contact Mousebumples with those suggestions.

Talk Shows
Talk Shows vary greatly in format and execution depending on the particular show and format. However, much like interviews, these tend to be very interactive shows, where the host and guest(s) chat back and forth and also respond to comments or questions offered by those present in Mixlr chat during the live broadcast.

We have a number of sorts of Talk Shows that have aired over the years, but here's some quick information about some of the more common ones you might see listed.

  • Notty Talk - Hosted by Notolecta, these shows may or may not have on-air guests, depending on the particular broadcast. There is not currently a regular schedule for Notty Talks, but we are hopeful that some may be upcoming in the future.

  • The Sopo Showpo - Originally called the Sloth Radio Hour, this show was hosted by Ambrella. Future broadcasts in the near future are unlikely, due to various logistical issues faced by the host at this time.

  • Panel Discussions - More often generally referred to as "discussions," these generally have a number of players on air to discuss an important issue or event facing Europeia. These are traditionally done around election time, speculating on the chances of each candidate and impressions about platforms and other relevant performances. Other instances may also be highlighted, depending on what's driving news and discussion within the region.

  • Euro After Hours - This is a much more laid back chat show, where the host and guests just chat about whatever comes to mind. Sometimes alcohol may also be involved for those guests that are of legal drinking age.

These is not an all-inclusive list of the talk shows we have within Europeia, but I hope you'll try tuning in for these broadcasts and interacting with our multitude of hosts.

Game Shows
Game shows are another fun and generally low-stress way to interact with players in the Mixlr chat via EBC Radio.

We have a number of types of game shows, but these are some of our most commonly used ones:

  • Skeptic or Believer - This show is really straightforward, like it sounds. The host reads a statement, and on-air guests (and listeners in the live chat, as well as those listening after the fact) decide whether or not they they believe the statement is or will be true. Are they skeptical or do they believe that it is an accurate statement? The best discussions arise when you have players of different opinions on-air and then you have a mini-debate within the broadcast.

  • Dramatic Readings - This is perhaps less of a game show and more of a 'acting on air' by reading various threads from the Europeian forums on-air. This show has generated a number of memes within the region, such as the infamous EYEBROWS-FACE!

  • Correlations - The host provides a link to a correlation graph that demonstrates a correlation between two unrelated variables, usually from this LinkSpurious Correlations site. The listeners in the Mixlr chat then try to put together a description of why that correlation is, and the goal is generally to be as convoluted as possible. The answers can get macabre, raunchy, or otherwise inappropriate, and the host(s) pick a winner and award a point each round.

We're always open to new ideas for new Game Shows, so if you have an idea for a Game Show, please contact Psuedopolis.

How do I listen in to EBC Radio?
That's easy! We try to announce our upcoming shows on the Upcoming Broadcasts tab (linked in the header of this dispatch), and if you're able to be present, we'd love to have you join us!

All of the EBC Radio broadcasts will be Linkmain EBC Radio page. While it's great to try to tune in for the start of a live broadcast, you are more than welcome to start listening at any time and join in the conversation in the Mixlr chat. If you want to join in chatting, you may want to consider getting your own Mixlr account, so that you're able to post - and perhaps even eventually host your own Mixlr broadcasts!

How do I catch up on a broadcast that I've missed?
As discussed above, we've got an index that we'll try to maintain, linked in the header here. However, if the show you're looking for isn't listed there, you can find our more recent broadcasts (and even the older broadcasts) on our LinkShowreel.

How can I get involved with EBC Radio?
Check out the Ministry of Communications within the Civil Service Officium. You don't need to be a member to create your own broadcasts through Mixlr, but EBC Radio broadcasts are coordinated through the Ministry of Communications.

Can I volunteer to be a guest on EBC Radio?
Sure! While getting involved with the Ministry of Communications is always a good plan, if you're not interested in that (or not ready for that), you can always reach out to Mousebumples, Psuedopolis, Hyanygo, or Trinnien to express your interest in being on-air. Some shows are better suited for different individuals to participate, and we're always looking to add new players as on-air guests.

What do I need to be an on-air guest?
Generally, a set of headphones with a microphone is best for a clear call and optimal broadcast quality. We conduct the audio portion of Mixlr from Skype, so an easy way to tell if you're able to be an on-air guest with Mixlr is to do a test voice call with Skype.
