The Principality of Zinoquia is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Dom Pedro Santos with an even hand, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.564 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 40%. A small private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The "Underwear of Women in Power" issue of The Zinoquia City Times is sold out, a government program is underway to revitalize Zinoquia's beaches, conscientious objectors are hanged as traitors, and illegal hunting is rife after veganism was recently made compulsory. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Zinoquia's national animal is the Water Dog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Christianity, and its currency is the Escudo.

Zinoquia is ranked 31st in Imperial Britain and 89,512th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -21 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
