The Holy Armed Republic of Zerconus is a colossal, safe nation, ruled by Zerrec Zageth Lazin with an even hand, and renowned for its irreverence towards religion. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 6.764 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and Education are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Talon Pass. The average income tax rate is 98%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Gambling.

Criminals are thrown to the Badgers to repay their debt to society, the country's famous rainforests are being bulldozed by the mining industry, nobody ever seems to enter or leave the armour-plated flying castle that serves as Zerconus's House of Parliament, and most citizens in Zerconus are abject pyrophobes after extremely graphic pamphlets were mailed nationwide by the government. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Zerconus's national animal is the Badger, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Diamond.
