Overview • PeopleGovernmentEconomyTrendAnalysis

The People's Republic of Zakanda is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by Prime Minister Declan Webster with a fair hand, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 10.759 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Asina. The average income tax rate is 69%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Gambling and Automobile Manufacturing.

Citizens applying for their first jobs face fierce competition from the homeless, abortions are routinely performed in Zakanda's hospitals, the "Underwear of Women in Power" issue of The Asina Times is sold out, and children as young as twelve are conscripted into the armed forces. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. Zakanda's national animal is the ocelot, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Christianity, and its currency is the pound.

Zakanda is ranked 4,492nd in the South Pacific and 94,345th in the world for Best Weather, with -678 Metres of Sunlight Above Expected.
