The Barbaric Empire of Xeraph is a gargantuan, devout nation, ruled by Amalric Tan'it with an iron fist, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 17.736 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Law & Order, with areas such as Social Equality and Education receiving almost no funds by comparison. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Retail, and Pizza Delivery industries.
Commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies, government police forces protect public schools from the threat of protest, the nationalized auto industry is adept at making durable little cars nobody wants to drive, and universities are populated by the spawn of the upper classes. Crime is a serious problem. Xeraph's national animal is the lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Essene Zen-Tao, and its currency is the topaz ring.
Xeraph is ranked 14th in Mercenary Lands and 85,188th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -40 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
