Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 1.058 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Atlantis. The average income tax rate is 76%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Tourism and Uranium Mining.

Bizarre-looking creatures called 'Addaxdogs' dominate wildlife preserves, councils up and down the country wrangle over legal matters, torture is commonly used to extract information from suspected criminals, and minority children spend hours bussing to schools miles away from home. Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. West Atlantia's national animal is the Addax, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the æro.
