The Republic of Voroxian is a huge, safe nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed population of 744 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Voroxian City. The average income tax rate is 57%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing, Book Publishing, and Uranium Mining industries.

The government has ordered a moratorium on referenda, citizens live in superstitious fear of the mysterious glowing clouds that float over Voroxian, the government is pouring money into 'Operation Enduring Democracy', and citizens are encouraged to report friends, family members or co-workers who seem depressed to the government for "counselling". Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Voroxian's national animal is the vorox, and its currency is the widget.

Voroxian is ranked 49th in International Democratic Union and 74,028th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -15 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
