The Democratic Republic of Viratbharat is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Neelesh Mishra with an even hand, and renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 1.007 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Education and Social Welfare are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kashi. The average income tax rate is 74%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Automobile Manufacturing, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

The government is making attempts at curtailing the flood of spam emails with little progress, Viratbharat's schoolchildren are manufactured into a segregated bunch of soldiers, religious zealots, and computer technicians, the government has declined to declare any particular religion as its 'official' one, and there's a shortage of swinging hot spots as land development grinds to a halt. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Viratbharat's national animal is the Tiger, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Rupees.

Viratbharat is ranked 3,258th in the Pacific and 73,458th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -15 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
