Billions of diamonds are being blown on orbital weapons development, nervous homeowners have been blamed for rising death rates amongst carol singers and locksmiths, hundreds of thousands of convicts work as slaves in Via Veneto's many privately-owned prisons, and the judicial branch is strongly influenced by major corporations. Crime is a major problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Via Veneto's national animal is the white lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the diamond.
