The Amazing Storm of Venicos is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Venico with an iron fist, and remarkable for its suspicion of poets. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.657 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Fortunate Angel. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 47%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, the armed forces are locked in an expensive and bloody war abroad to stamp out possible terrorists, citizens select which government department gets their income tax Merks each year, and 'Mountain Doobie' is widely regarded as the nation's favourite drink. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Venicos's national animal is the Grizzly, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Valhalla, and its currency is the Merk.

Venicos is ranked 853rd in Lazarus and 33,131st in the world for Most Extreme, scoring 23 on the Paul-Nader Subjective Decentrality Index.
