The Holy Pirate Shogunate of Vaval is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Shogun Yoshimori Mori with an even hand, and notable for its complete lack of public education. The hard-nosed, hard-working population of 6.115 billion Vavalians are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Religion & Spirituality, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Vavalia. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Information Technology.

Bombs are permitted on planes for the 'security of the passengers', citizens simply have to point a weapon at a government official to get what they want, the richest citizens live in sheltered private citadels, and churches frequently hold public 'contraception burnings'. Crime is a serious problem. Vaval's national animal is the Prussian Eagle, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, its national religion is Protestantism Christianity, and its currency is the Gold Coin.

Vaval is ranked 23rd in The Commonwealth of Kings and 109,099th in the world for Safest, scoring -110.8 on the Bubble-Rapp Safety Rating.
