Vancouvian Military Strength and Strategy

Vancouvia relies on three military branches: the Vancouvian National Army, the Vancouvian Special Forces, and the Vancouvian Espionage Organization.

The Vancouvian National Army mostly operates in natural disaster relief, border defense, anti-piracy, and policing. The VNA is only deployed overseas if a force of Vancouvian Special Forces would take too long to effectively complete an objective. The VNA also contains the Vancouvian navy and air force.

Personnel

  • 60,000 active personnel

  • 140,000 reservists (typically rotated through service)

The Vancouvian Special Forces operates separately from the VNA. VSF composes the bulk of Vancouvian military might. Trained from childhood in martial arts, tactics, marksmanship, stalking, combat medicine, and patriotic idealism, the VSF is a versatile and deadly force.

Personnel

  • 11,000 active personnel

  • 32,000 personnel currently undergoing training

Equipment

The VSF maintains no substantial equipment or materiel of its own and instead has access to and utilizes VNA equipment when necessary.

Organizational Structure

VSF are designated by an Alpha Squad, Bravo Squad, Charlie Squad, etc. naming system, with the 27th squad designated as Alpha 2 and so on. Each squad typically has 12-16 soldiers. All squads are capable of operating alone for extended periods of time. When squads are grouped together in a single area of operations, each tends to have their own separate objectives, a sort of compartmentalization of the battlefield that lends itself to highly efficient maneuvering and reinforcement.

The Vancouvian Espionage Organization operates both domestically and abroad. The VEO's objectives include the gathering of intelligence, the recruitment of foreign operatives, and the incitement of riots and revolts in enemy countries.

Personnel

  • 240 operatives stationed abroad

  • 1,300 staff stationed domestically

Vancouvian military strategy emphasizes three facets of warfare:
  • Information-gathering

  • Technological superiority

  • Guerrilla-warfare

Vancouvia seeks to identify and pacify threats before they grow too large. VEO is usually the first to counter any threats, using subterfuge to topple enemy regimes or to incite chaos. VEO lacks the military strength and equipment needed to carry out sustained occupations of enemy countries. The VSF are therefore the next, and primary, line of attack. The VSF typically is deployed when direct action against enemy forces is required. The number of VSF deployed is directly related to the significance of the threat, the estimated total deployment time, and the political nature of the conflict. If the VSF's guerrilla operations are too slow or too costly, the VNA will be deployed en masse to carry out an invasion or occupation.

Vancouvia places an emphasis on infantry, helicopters, and UAVs, posing that mobility and maneuverability are key to an effective fighting force. Vancouvia is gradually transitioning toward greater autonomous equipment, replacing aircraft with UAVs and promoting research into land, sea, and air-based autonomous robotic equipment.
