The Republic of Urth is a massive, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 2.748 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Urth City. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Retail, Information Technology, and Tourism industries.

The country is effectively ruled by large corporations and business consultants, the bonfire of the old paper records can be seen for miles around Urth City, agricultural science is the most competitive subject at Urth's universities, and it is illegal for police officers to carry out searches due to strict privacy laws. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a major problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Urth's national animal is the Rat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Gold.

Urth is ranked 4,711th in the Pacific and 122,883rd in the world for Most Income Equality, scoring 29 on the Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.
