Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 8.915 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ashpoint. The average income tax rate is 99%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Tourists need only sign on the dotted line to become citizens, mandatory daycare is provided by the government, conductors wield diamond-encrusted batons to fit in with their freshly gilded surroundings, and teams of painters are converting road signs from horse lengths to kilometers. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Turis's national animal is the ris, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Polar Globe.

Turis is ranked 13th in Antarctica and 3,528th in the world for Largest Trout Fishing Sector, scoring 6 on the Nemo Depletion Efficiency Index.
