The Most Serene Republic of Toongoosia is a colossal, cultured nation, renowned for its keen interest in outer space. The hard-nosed, hard-working population of 7.317 billion Toongoosians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Richburgh. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 1%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Voting is compulsory, more and more students are taking up a career in medicine, politicians are losing their jobs in a plan to make the government 'leaner and fitter', and a large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Toongoosia's national animal is the Blue Eagle, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its currency is the karant.

Toongoosia is ranked 63rd in Europe and 7,963rd in the world for Most Popular Tourist Destinations, with 551 Net Tourists per hour.
