The Black Inferno of Tim is a massive, economically powerful nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.296 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Tim City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 36%. A healthy private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Trout Farming industries.

Crime suspects are forced to submit to blood testing, the government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, the nation's new foreign policy of 'very disproportionate retribution' has its neighbors on edge, and all citizens are solely referenced by their allocated identity number. Crime is a problem. Tim's national animal is the Phoenix, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Cruor, and its currency is the Ringtat.
