The Empire of Tildawen is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 2.487 billion are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 37%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Uranium Mining, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Children are sent to either religious or secular schools, fur coats have become the latest fashion trend, there has been a series of riots between local cannibals and health food advocates, and most citizens in Tildawen are abject pyrophobes after extremely graphic pamphlets were mailed nationwide by the government. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Tildawen's national animal is the puma, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the tild.
