The Most Serene Republic of Thyrall is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Rage with an even hand, and renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 1.833 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Korkabain City. The average income tax rate is 69%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Tourism industry, followed by Information Technology and Uranium Mining.

The people elect the Supreme Court justices directly, voting is compulsory, Thyrall is notorious for its citizens' infidelity, and strategic bombers are being converted into preschools. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Thyrall's national animal is the timber wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the curit.

Thyrall is ranked 3,819th in the West Pacific and 88,406th in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -21 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
