The Hyperdemocratic Republic of Thesan is a massive, genial nation, ruled by the Prime Magister Rikhart Haviler with a fair hand, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 2.493 billion are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Equality, Education, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Mairidan. The average income tax rate is 67%, and even higher for the wealthy. A very small private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Elections have become procedural nightmares due to voters persistently rejecting candidates, voting is voluntary, the military frequently holds bake sales to raise funds, and politicians are often found scavenging bins at night to supplement their income. Crime is totally unknown. Thesan's national animal is the Thesan White Wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Len.

Thesan is ranked 2,601st in 10000 Islands and 128,499th in the world for Largest Mining Sector, scoring -9 on the Blue Sky Asbestos Index.
