The Imperial States of The Yankee Republic is a massive, safe nation, ruled by President Barack Obama with an iron fist, and notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 3.031 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Washington DC. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 61%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining industries.

Skateboarding is punishable by heavy fines, the government is cutting back on the number of political prisoners executed each year, police officers have been re-kitted with designer uniforms and gold plated handcuffs, and child adoption by homosexual couples has been outlawed. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. The Yankee Republic's national animal is the Bald Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Economic Growth, and its currency is the Dollar.

The Yankee Republic is ranked 4th in Corporate Fascism and 1,231st in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring 37 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
